Unremarkable. Pours clear. No nose. Mostly turns on the bitterness of the hops.

At the brewpub, hazy burnt gold, light sand head, nice lace.

Smell is fruity, lots of apricot esters, some citrus hops.

Taste is also fruity, but some resin hop flavor and firm bitterness balance the esters, cracker malt.

Mouthfeel is drier, medium bodied.

Drinkability is good. Not to malty, english ale esters with aggressive american hops, full flavored and complex without being to disjointed. I had a massive sampler there earlier (10 x 5 oz pours for only $12!) and they were all solid. Great place to chill for the views and vibe of the town alone, the brew is only icing on the cake.

This arrives from the tap with a frothy, half-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a deep gold color that shows a brilliantly clear gold with copper tinged hue to it when held up to the light. The beer smells of piney, herbal hops that is backed by toasted pale malt notes. There is an herbal citrus zest here that leans towards grapefruit, but this is fairly subtle.

There almost seems to be a touch of buttery character to this beer, it is just a hint, and I might be imagining it, but I think there is just a touch of diacetyl here. The flavor is fairly dry, and coupled with this the beer is pretty light bodied as well. It is substantially bitter with a big pine like flavor that is backed by herbal notes that lean toward menthol and bitter herbs. The malt character, while certainly playing a supporting role, still contributes quite a bit of flavor to this beer; it is nice that it keeps away from the crystal malt associated flavors, instead notes of cracker like grain, toasted crushed pale malt and just a general pale malt almost bread like character.

This beer is certainly quite hoppy, though I would prefer if it had more of the juicy, fruity hop character to it; the bitterness and pine / herbal notes really dominate the flavor profile here. It would be good to clean up the residual diacetyl, but this is really at such a low level it is almost not worth mentioning. I’ll have to give this another try at a later date, as I feel like I am just not getting this right now.
