Enjoyed at the 2011 RAREaffair. Poured into a tasting glass.
Perfectly clear oak. Not much head, just a thin ring of cream colored bubbles.
The grainy nose shows off a somewhat harsh wheat character — this stuff has a bite. Peach and apricot sweetness mix with crackers, which is nice, but I’m distracted by the wet grain aromas.
Again in the flavor: fruity apricot is good; musty grain is not. Some toast and hints of bubblegum emerge mid-palate, remaining smooth and sweet into the grainy finish.
Syrupy medium body excited by light, pokey bubbles. Alcohol fumes come through the nose, but are hidden by the sweetness overall.
A forgettable anniversary ale. At times sweet and pretty flavorful, but the off-flavors are really distracting.
