Birrificio e Birreria Turbacci "Strong Ale"
33 cl, brown glass bottle for 5€ @ Baguetteria del Fico, Via della Fossa, 12 00186, Roma, Italy
Listed at 9.0% ABV, Turbacci's "Strong Ale" is done in the English style. It's mainly clear, deep amber in color, and displays an initial head of white that steadily recedes to a wide collar and whips surface covering. The lacing is average to slightly better than average (although it's possible that my glass wasn't quite "beer clean"). You'll find the maltiness right up front in the aroma, and it's gently caramelish, and almost honeyish. Some berry-like yeasty fruitiness backs it. Not surprisingly, the flavor follows the aroma, adding a greater depth of sweet malts, and more fruit (apple, grape). It's not quite bitter enough to balance the malty sugars but the zesty carbonation helps, and there's some noticeable alcohol in the finish to help dry it as well.
