On-draught @ Duque brewpub in Lisbon.
A: Khaki colour cap with an opaque black body. Retention is okay - ~1 minute.
Sm: Coconut, rich genuine vanilla, toasted coconut flesh, cream. Saliva-inducing, if a bit simplistic for a coconut Porter. Still, the vividness of the coconut is awesome, and it's rare these notes come through so authentically.
T&Mf: Coconut and vanilla mingle sweetly in this creamy ale, underscored by a smooth, wet, soft mouthfeel that emphasizes the luscious coconut milk taste nicely. Okay, some balancing toastiness or roasted barley would be nice, and while I'm getting plenty of coconut, there aint a lot of Porter...where are the chocolate notes, dark malts, et al.?
Silky and approachable, but ultimately too sweet, giving it a coconut malt shake character throughout. Still, it's likable in spite of its imbalance.
O: High sweetness brings the drinkability of this committed coconut Porter down, and more of a solid basic Porter build underneath the coconut veneer is needed to make this a serious competitor in the niche substyle. Pricey at 3.10 euro per 20cl, and not a brew I'd buy again.
