My first review in a week is live from the waterfront of Lisbon, Portugal & is a 12 oz. bottle with a thin veneer of gold wax atop. The brewery is just a couple miles from where I rest.
The pour is dark & what bubbles exist are quickly exterminated. The nose is gentle malts, roast, & bourbon, all quite low on the intensity scale.
Murder – Barrel Aged is barrel forward, almost always a positive. Dull-knifed bourbon bruises the palate, followed by a flat malt sweetness. Mid-palate brings muted bits of roast, black licorice, black feelings, the never-ending night of Alaska in winter. On the lighter side of a big stout, this is disappearing alarmingly quickly. Good think I only have one bottle.
Reminds me strongly of U.S. barrel aged stouts circa 2010 – straightforward, with no adds or artifice. Good, solid brew
