Dois Corvos Cervejeira "Murder In Carcavelos"
33 cl can coded "CA204 1602 E022034" and sampled on 22 November 2024

Notes via stream of consciousness: Last night I enjoyed a "Murder On The Dancefloor" on tap, and this morning I have "Murder In Carcavelos". It's black in color, and opaque. The head is a dark brown but it doesn't stick around for long. In the nose I'm finding brown sugar, alcohol, coffee, dark fruit, and dark chocolate. The flavor follows and if I hadn't had the same beer last night I probably would not be able to pick out the fruitiness and thinning oak of the Carcavelos barrels. Carcavelos, by the way, is similar to Port wine in that it is a fortified and oxidative wine, and is made in a beachside town seven and a half miles west of Lisbon. The wine adds some strength to the beer, and a little bit of dryness despite its being a fortified wine. I'm also getting apple, dried fig, black raisin, molasses, and a hint of spiciness that's more like white pepper than black pepper. The oak comes through more clearly in the finish, and in comparison to the standard "Murder" it cuts through and eliminates some of the lingering chocolate and coffee. In the mouth it's full bodied on the lighter end, and smooth with a moderate carbonation. It's interesting, and I'm enjoying it quite a bit, but I'm not sure how much the aging in Carcavelos barrels has done to improve the original beer. It's become a different beer, that's for sure, and it seems more refined but I personally like the standard "Murder" better.
