Aged in Calvados barrels, Poke is our interpretation of a historical Berliner Weiss. We utilize a no boil method of brewing while simply heating the wort to near boiling temperature to stabilize it. This beer is then aged with a mixed culture for 3-6 months and aged on blueberry puree.

A: Pours an clear almost opaque dark bluish purple in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate amounts of dark garnet red + purple + ruby red colored highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy foamy pinkish beige head that quickly reduces to a small patch of slightly mottled very thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of tart blueberries over moderate aromas of slightly sour wheat malts with moderate amounts of lemon citrus lacto. Light aromas of oak barrel and hints of brandy.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of slightly sour wheat malts with moderate amounts of lemon citrus lacto. That is followed by light flavors of oak barrels and brandy. Finally there is a strong flavor of tart blueberries. Moderate amounts of lingering acidic tartness.
M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a nice moderately tart and acidic mouthfeel. Does a great job of highlighting the blueberries and the calvados barrel aging adds some depth and complexity to the flavor + aroma of this beer.

031319 Absolutely beautiful in the glass. Nose is inviting. Not so subtle blueberry, fairly dry. This is a great tasting brew. HBBC best brew, yet. Thanks Stephen.
