poured from 32 oz. half growler into Blackwater Draw tight nonic
(half growler filled at BWD brew pub about 24 hours ago)

L: pale yellow, very light, SRM 1-3 ... definitely no more than 3; pushes up thin head, no more than 1/3-inch tall, of creamy looking white foam, very tiny bubbles ... looks like the full day in the half growler robbed it of some of its carbonation; about 85% clear, maybe 90%, with a consistent mistiness throughout the glass; very little sticking or lacing; almost no activity in the glass but it does keep a very thin collar

S: grapefruit, green grass, cilantro, pine ... super fresh juicy red grapefruit is the main note and it's popping; as it warms, malt kicks in a lot of sweetness, candied orange, candied grapefruit, slight bit of biscuit malt too (not just a generic sweetness)

T: grapefruit with a nice layer of biscuity malt sweetness under it; the grapefruit has a light bitterness to it, but that malt comes in and sweetens it nicely; earthy aftertaste and here there's a hint of a wheat/wit twang of something, but by "hint" I mean the lightest of light impressions

F: ale soft, super creamy, probably affected by the 24 hours in the half growler ... still has enough carbonation to keep it running along, but it's very, very soft; hard to score it but the overall construction seems very sturdy

O: classified as a "White IPA" at the brewpub, Gringo IPA doesn't have any obvious "white" qualities of a wheat or witbier in the aroma or flavor notes, though it surely is very pale; reviewing it as a lower ABV American IPA, it's fantastic, grapefruit hop aroma and flavor have that juicy pop I love most about the style, and the overall effect is one fine beer; the 24 hours in the half growler appear to have robbed it of some carbonation, so scoring it feels a little quirky, but the bottom line is it's good and more proof that Blackwater Draw makes good stuff ... the way the hops pop in this one, it might be my favorite from them and it's definitely my favorite hoppy beer from them
