32 oz. half growler on tap filled at the brewpub in Northgate on Saturday, September 30, 2017; poured into pilsener about 20 hours later on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 at the house
L: light yellow but sparkling from the brilliant clarity; pushes up 1-inch head of white foam that shows a very cool stack of big bubbles; no sticking or lacing, moderate activity for a pils keeps a collar of white foam ever present
S: grassy, lemon peel, cilantro, green ... wonderful Old World hoppy aroma; light but persistent layer of biscuit/bread malt; as it warms, takes on just a hint of that house paint note many American adjunct lagers have — it doesn't hurt anything, just exists
T: classic mix of hops and malt ... the green grassy hop bite inside a little pocked of biscuit/bread malt; bitter bite is pronounced, lingers and lingers with some earthiness to it; the sweet bread malt is also consistently there to help open each swallow, softening the blow of the grass-hop bite that doesn't mess around; that earthy foundation in the aftertaste also isn't messing around ... it's growing and it's not getting medicinal and it's making me want to drink about six half growlers of this sucker; house paint note shows up faintly in the flavor, but like it does in the aroma, it remains very slight and doesn't get in the way
F: light and crisp with a detectable midswallow layer of softness that's kind of weird but also really cool; approaching perfection if not surpassing it for some ... built for lots and lots of quaffing
O: I'm going back for more, and that's not a joke — this is a fantastic pils with flavor bursting at the seams while staying within the lines of the style; Blackwater Draw can brew a good German pilsener, and that's good news for Bryan-College Station
