Pours a dark brown with a half-finger tan head. The head recedes quickly into a wispy layer leaving no lacing.
Smells of a strange perfume with good amounts of brown sugar and burnt caramel.
Tastes similar to how it smells, though without the perfume. Huge amounts of brown sugar flavors up front are followed by what tastes like a combination of imitation chocolate powder and seared caramel. It tastes like almost all flavors were added after the beer was brewed.
Mouthfeel is alright - it's on the light side but carbonation is decent.
Drinkability is horrible. I'm glad I had a friend nearby who liked it because there was no way I could finish the glass.
Overall this was probably the worst beer I tried at HHB - avoid like the plague.

Appearance: clear brown in color with a short 1/2" head that falls to a spotty surface foam. No lacing develops.
Smell: bitter chocolate and roasted malt sweetness are mildly pleasant on the nose.
Taste: roasted malts, strong bitter dark chocolates, and bitter coffee tones are a bit overdone. There is some softer prune / raisin flavors in the background.
Mouthfeel: smooth throughout. Very long aftertaste and the bitterness does not leave the tongue. Medium bodied.
Drinkability: another unbalanced beer from the brewpub. This one has some flavor but it leans towards bitter coffee flavors that are not pleasant.

Had this on 6/28/08 at the brewpub and served in a pint glass.
A - dark, black with some carbonation trailing up towards it. Had a small head that just sat on the sides and was mocha colored.
S - sweet chocolate with a hint of toffee and caramel. Light roasted malt and bitter coffee come forth
T - At first, bitter baker's chocolate. As the beer sat in the mouth, I found peculiar hints of plum and grape and then finished with a hint of coffee bitterness. The finish was also rather dry and reminded me of how a white wine will some time finish. The one odd aspect of the beer was that the dark grape flavors seemed to dominate a lot more than the coffee.
MF - rather light in body as I found it to be a bit watery. Mild carbonation. The mouthfeel actually reminded me a bit more of a soda than a beer.
D - overall, this was on the lower end of porters that I had tried. Not much of a coffee presence within it as I felt that the dark fruit taste seemed to dominate it more than anything else. I didn't have any problem finishing it but I had no desire to try another.
