A German American wheat beer brewed with floral American hops, sweet specialty malts, & finished with sweet orange peel. It was originally slated as a seasonal, but we loved it so much, we decided to brew it for you year round!

I have been meaning to drink this one for a while, as part of The CANQuest (tm), but now that Spring weather has finally kicked in, it seems especially appropriate!
From the CAN: "ABOUT: A wheat ale brewed with floral German hops, sweet specialty malts, and sweet orange peel. It was originally slated as a seasonal, but we loved it so much, we decided to brew it for you year round!"; "Enjoy Cold"; "A Wheat Ale Brewed with Orange Peel".
Being that it was clearly identified as a Wheat Beer of some stripe, I went with some pre-Crack! agitation in the CAN before opening the vent. It seemed to work to my advantage as it produced well over three fingers of dense, foamy, tawny head with modest retention that rather quickly fell to wisps. Color was a murky, cloudy Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17). Nose had not only the tanginess of wheat but also a pronounced orange sweetness like Mandarin oranges. Mmm. Mouthfeel was a bit thin, not downright watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste was not really of a Hefeweizen, more like an American Pale Wheat Ale, which is how I am rating it. It was wheat-y without banana or clove flavors, but with a sweet orange cast. Finish was semi-dry and definitely refreshing. It was nice on this warm evening and quite refreshing.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a pint glass
L: Nearly clear golden copper pour. Massive foamy white head. Solid rim of lacing.
S: Citrus/orange rind... wheat/grain.
T/F: Light... wheat/grains. Orange presence and citrus. Fairly simple... the base beer is unimpressive but the orange works. The only problem is the finish/aftertaste. Some flavor made it in that absolutely doesn't belong and is rather unpleasant... sort of a bad floral note. Zesty carbonation.
O: Not a terribly impressive beer and not one that I'd hit again. At least it's light but the flavor is lacking and capped off with what I found to be a bad aftertaste. Entirely lacking in what makes a good Hef. I've had other beers from Doc G's that weren't bad, but this one... pass.

A thanks to the Hugh Hefner of hefeweizen, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has an orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, some light oranges. Taste is very light, downright bland. Some mild wheat, light oranges, probably the least flavorful example of this style I have tried. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is better off avoided.

Fairly anonymous, which is better than the actively bad beers you can get from the rash of new microbreweries out there. Base beer is mostly flat & bland, but the orange flavor helps out with that somewhat. It isn't artifical tasting or cloying. Mouthfeel is good.

If you enjoy wheat beers, this is the one for you. Brewed on site and tastes like a more intense version of a Blue Moon Belgium White with more hops flavor.
