Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip
L: Dark, dark pour... nearly black with 2+ fingers of fizzy brown head. Falls fast... thin rim of lacing.
S: Not a lot there... lightly charred sugars and espresso. Thought there'd be more.
T/F: Roasted grains... burned sugars and strong coffee flavor. Mild sweetness to go with bitter roast. Not picking up much in the way of booze/whiskey barrel. Tastes more like a strong coffee stout. Medium bodied... also lighter than expected. Well carbonated. The finish is bittersweet sugars/roast. The 11% is actually a little hidden. Definitely warming.
O: I had high hopes for this one but found it to be less than satisfying. For 11% ABV and whiskey-aged to boot I thought they could have gotten a lot more flavor out of this one. Not bad by any means... as this is still a big and enjoyable Imperial Stout. I'm just not getting much of the barrel flavor and it isn't nearly what I was hoping for.

Undated can into pint glass. Pours a deep, dark brown with a nice tan head. Initial impression is molasses, maple, maybe a little butter - very little coffee bitterness or chocolate - a refreshing difference in the increasingly crowded RIS field. Whiskey flavor is not particularly apparent. Mouthfeel is medium - way too light for the style. There's enough alcohol burn to let you know you're drinking a double-digit ABV. Finish is fairly smooth. OK but not a world-changer.
