Excited for this beer. Bottled Aug 31, 2017
Pours an off-white foamy fizzy 1/2 finger head that fades semi slowly, nice lacing, long legs, just about pitch black beer
Nose unfortunately smells infected... sour funky notes, a bit fruity with that, rest of the beer has some bourbon and vanilla oak, oatmeal, dark chocolate cocoa, touch roasty coffee, but sad infection
Taste hopefully is better............... not really, again some infection, thankfully not too bad, vanilla barrel, mild bourbon, creamy milk chocolate and dark chocolate, a little roasty coffee, toasted biscuity malts, but unfortunate fruity sour infection throughout and some metallic flavors on the back end. Fair bitter finish, spicy hops, little vanilla oak and dark chocolate, hint of sour infection lingering
Mouth is med to fuller bod, nice fluffy carb, booze hidden well
Overall it's a damn shame, this seems like it would have been a really nice beer, but unfortunately when you're aging funky sours in the same area as stouts in barrels, something like this is bound to happen. I really hope to get it again and re-review, but I haven't seen it since.

500ml bottle, brewed 2/28/17, bottled 8/31/17. Wonderful label artwork by the way. Opaque black coffee color, slightly translucent brown at the edges, head settles to a creamy film. Nice coffee roast malt aroma with a note of bourbon. Taste is rich cocoa, some lightly roasted malts, slight bitterness - bittersweet, bourbon barrel is more subtle than I'd prefer. Mouthfeel is very nice, balanced between creamy and bubbly. ABV on bottle says 9%, which is nice in the taste but not as prominent as you might think from 9%. Overall, this was very nice with some room for improvement, but also was a 500ml bottle at a 750ml price - $15.
