A- This pours with the look/color/consistency of used motor oil! Very dark opaque brown color, with little to no head, and I poured this fairly aggressive, only leaving a small ring around the inside of the glass. It doesn't appear to have much carbonation either, as there are no popping bubbles at the top of the liquid. Lacing is modest at best, with an oily film sticking rather than any foam.
S- Initial aromas of huge chocolate covered cherry (Queen Anne), which gives way to more tart raspberry fruit, smooth vanilla creme, some muted deep Earthy char, perhaps some organic black coffee oiliness. The finish is mild and shows signs of lactose sweetness.
T- Huge raspberry fruits, both tart and sweet ripe berry, robust dark chocolate, marshmallow vanilla, burnt toffee, cocoa powder astringency, black coffee, double chocolate raspberry cake, heavy whipping cream, lactose sweetness, black malts on the finish, as well as subtle hop bitterness that lingers well after the swallow. Its very different overall but pleasant!
M/O- This is probably the fullest bodied beer I've tried to date....it is thick....just like motor oil! Once you get through the first sip and allow the palate to calm down a bit, one realizes that this is actually deep, rich, and balanced quite well between tart and sweet, with superbly well hidden alcohol! The carbonation is really mild, which really compliments the nature of what we have here, and I would love to try this with a rich chocolate dessert or something raspberry based. Wasn't sure at first but this grows on one, and while it is definitely a sharing type of beer, I would love to enjoy this again!
