Enveloped by a crimson haze, the Illuminati recite their incantations. The black lodge trembles as delirium sets in. An ecstasy of power washes over them as the candles glow brighter, and brighter and brighter...

We've added ancho chiles, cinnamon, and a special blend of Mexican and Madagascar vanilla from our friends at Vain Foods.

These add a richness as well as a subtle spice that is a perfect compliment to notes of caramel and bright, fruity acidity...

We gladly partake in this dark alchemy to bring you this spectacle of grandeur.

Bottle from Kyle. Normal pour.pale golden, airy, bubbly head. Aroma is sweet and tart. Taste is more sweetness, a bit overwhelming. Just a bit too much

Pours black with a half finger of foamy, khaki head. Head retains better than the base beer. More stout like. No lacing left behind. The whiskey and barrel opening of the base beer sits back seat to cinnamon, vanilla, and chilies. Whiskey and barrel are still present, but the "Mexican Cake" flavors really dominate and entertain first. Flavor profile is a smooth and creamy start, with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and chilies. Whiskey is much more hidden here, as is the sour tinge at the end. While it features a sour finish, it's only a soft lactic twist. Mouth feel is only slightly fizzy, with a medium consistency. Overall, a sublime sour stout that features some interesting notes. It drinks much smoother than a 11.7% beer.

Served in a Teku glass. 5oz pour at Crane's Taproom. Reviewed from notes.
