"Remember the Maine"?? I'm not sure about that reference. I'd call this beer "Remember the Punkuccino." It's quite similar to the Elysian beer, and a nice alternative for those of us who no longer want to support Elysian once they became yet another brand in the Budweiser portfolio.
I had Remember the Maine side by side with Punkuccino yesterday at The Beer Junction, and they really are close siblings, if not quite twins. Remember the Maine is dark, with a bit of a head, and nice lacing. The aroma is rich: dark roasts and cinnamon. I looked for a hint of smoke, but couldn't find it. The flavor is similar to the smell. Like Punkuccino, this is not a "pumpkin pie" beer. The pumpkin is very much in the background. Remember the Maine is a bit less sweet and a bit less smooth than the Elysian, but that's about the only difference I noticed.
When Elysian got bought out, I only was sorry to lose their pumpkin beers, as nothing else in their portfolio was unique. Now Cloudburst has filled the gap on one of their best beers. I'll look for Remember the Maine every October.
