Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a two finger dark khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt with light char, bakers chocolate, Postum and a hint of caramel; smokey. Flavor is dark, charry toasted malt, bakers chocolate, graham crackers, hints of caramel and/or stone fruit (faint); smoky chocolate with light to moderate hop bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied with deep creaminess and silky, thick mouth feel. The brewers description describes this well: a big, bold, dark and hoppy stout, everything to the max. Fortunately, it's not to the max, but it is bold and dark. It is hoppier than most stouts, but at a level that the deep malt supports well. Oddly, my local store described this as a "double oatmeal" stout and oats are not mentioned in the brewery description, but this has the wonderful creamy, thick mouth feel that I crave in an oatmeal stout. It's far creamier than the last two oatmeal stouts I've had. I drink a lot of BA stouts and it's always nice to get back to a full flavored, full bodied, well toasted stout without adjuncts or aging. Looks good too. Very nicely done. I'm going back for more.
