cool beer, overdone on the hops i think, but cool anyway, a west coast pils take, but not their most refined or dialed beer, seems terpene dosed and a little intense for what is ideally a little easier drinking style space, but i appreciate the approach, the use of modern ingredients, and think this stands as quite unique, even if its a bit of a permanent decision for the palate. they served it in plastic where i had it, but it still looks a little cloudy to me, even though the frosted opaque plastic its apparent its not clear and super well refined, sports a fine frothy white head though. the nose is weedy, lemon candy forward, with a definite like sprite soda thing, lemon and lime both, some green grape and tropical fruitiness too, still appreciable pils malt character behind the hop profile, some oiliness heavying it to me, lightly starchy, lager yeast is obscured by the hops to a large extent, distinctive and fresh, quite bold. the flavor is a little quicker and tighter than the aroma presents, it kind of all hits at once with a fruity hoppy linger and a little less overall bitterness that i suspected earlier. some pine and resin to it, key lime and green drink, southern hemisphere white wine, gummy candy, there is a subtle sweetness to it, but it stays grounded by the malt that does exhibit some crackery european character, even if the lager yeast part is way back, its beery enough to have some balance, this is just really new school. on the edge of too much with the terpene hop thing going on, but some unique layers from it that make this really poppy. fine carbonation but fuller feeling and less refreshing than i wanted it to be, but a fun and unique take on an emerging style that still has wiggle room for beers like this. not as dialed as the best beers coming out of highlander lately, but enjoyable and even challenging a little bit for something called pils. intriguing, beguiling.

Draft at the Handlebar. Foggy golden pour, wispy head. Hoppy aroma, citrus. Taste is fruity, hoppy, bright, perky with a nice clean finish. Special for The Handlebar.
