they are calling this a new zealand pale, i love the name and the beer is really good, these guys are on a serious roll of late, all of their stuff has been good. just off clear, real pale, straw yellow with a decent white head on it from the tap, good carbonation the whole time, and it seems like another less is more approach to a hoppy beer from highlander, where a simple malt bill supports high quality hops and new school balance is easily achieved. this hits with green grape and white wine notes, it has bright herbal freshness that hints at lemon verbena and honey suckle and even white tea, its got lemongrass and peach candy character, and its cleanly fermented and smells dry, with minimal grain contribution, this is whats trendy right now. the flavor follows the nose, this is radiant and interesting, lightly vinous, herbaceous, and fresh as can be. the bitterness is low so its kind of lemony and juicy up front, with just a little crackery pils type thing to the malt on the back end as it warms a little, near neutral ferment and lighter medium body, super summery and easy drinking, its all about the hops. white lifesaver candy, honeydew melon, meyer lemon zest to finish. delightful beer, nothing like the pale ales of old that are all copper colored and bitter, this is playing in a different realm of pale ale, and its fantastic.
