real solid amber here, lots of malt depth, smooth and hearty to drink on, some richness to it but neither sweet nor heavy, very drinkable, and uniquely fresh to me, not something that generally stands out in an amber, but this does present as very fresh. nice deep amber color to it, short compact and lasting khaki head on it, fine clarity and carbonation, slightly cozy aroma, hints of split firewood, maple, and fresh bread, maybe slightly nutty, toffee and brown sugar, warm, autumnal, but i always kind of think that with a good example of the style, and the flavor follows the nose, dark bread, almond, english type crystal malt, kiln character coming through, subtle apple and raisin fruitiness, quicker finish than beer this grain forward generally is, which is a nice feature, almost crisp even, impressive. soft medium body, enough bubbles, no real linger, so much cleaner than is the norm, the texture is a big part of the success here. nicely put together, very professional, and in a style that rarely gets me too excited, i came away pretty stoked on this. the quality is remarkable even if the beer is basic overall, solid food beer in a number of contexts i would think too, nice. highlander has been on a bit of a roll lately.
