We've been enjoying playing around with the challenges of brewing high ABV hoppy beers lately and our fourth venture into TIPA territory sees a real emphasis on pushing that tropical fruit juice character to higher levels. The headline hops on this bill are Citra, HBC630 and Ekuanot with Palisade playing main support.
We have been excited to use HBC 630 for the first time and this felt like the perfect opportunity. It brings juicy mango and pineapple, along with a touch of stone fruit and even sweet cherry which pairs perfectly with our peach forward Citra and some lime and papaya from the Ekuanot. Palisade balances this all out on the nose with a touch of grassiness to keep things interesting. This all plays out over a velvety smooth malt.

Pours a hazy, dark orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of sweet biscuity malt and tropical/citrus/berry hops, with notes of papaya, orange and raspberry, as well as some herbal accents. Taste is a good balance of biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly herbal hops, with tropical, citrus, berry and stone fruit notes of orange, lime, papaya, raspberry and apricot. Finishes somewhat sweet, with a very light bitterness and some papaya, lime and apricot lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
While I've certainly had worse TIPAs, this does feature the style's typical deficiencies a little bit, being a bit sweet and boozy, which also kinda muddles up the hop notes, although it's really not too bad. You can actually tell that there is a rather complex and interesting hop profile hidden underneath that boozy character that would have probably come out a lot better at a lower ABV. The HBC 630 hops add some particularly interesting red berry notes to the impressive array of different hop flavors that you can tell are there, but just don't pop that well due to being a bit muddled up by that boozy character.

De Labirratorium. En copa Teku. Corrigiendo exámenes para Asun + viendo The Boys 2x07. Con galletas Tostarica. El alcohol es bastante prominente, sin llegar a estropearla pero haciéndola lenta de trago y eclipsando otros sabores. En cualquier caso, a medida que vas bebiendola va gustando mas y mas
