This Barrington cold brewed coffee infused blonde barleywine is the luminous counterpart to our dark, rich imperial stout. In Day & Night, we envisioned the blonde barleywine style as a way to showcase the nuanced floral, fruity, and spicy characteristics found in medium and lighter roast coffee blends. Golden-Amber in color, Day & Night exudes delightful aromas of almond toffee, graham crackers, fruity coffee, lightly acidic berries, and vanilla. Upfront flavors of creamy coffee, honey tinged malt, caramel, and tart berry blend cleanly with a slight coffee-derived bitterness.

Dark orange body, slippery lacing in the tulip poured from a growler. Nose is nice. Coffee is there for sure along with some nice, rich pound cake notes. Taste is what's on the nose and more. Notes of vanilla, orange marmalade, brioche bread, and light, perfectly brewed coffee. Mouth feel is dangerous - highly drinkable with a light enough body to let flavors dance, but heavy enough to lay on the palette in all the right ways to leave a pleasant linger.
Really strong.

L - glowing opaque dark orange.
S - iced coffee and the caramel part of a milk dud.
T - toffee and coffee! Light vanilla and bread.
F - classic Trillium. Smooth and soft. Light and velvety. High ABV makes this one super rich.
O - solid barley wine and an interesting take on the style. Flavor improves as it warms.

Drank from a 25.4 fl oz (750 ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA

Served in a snifter
The beer poured a slightly hazy, orangey-amber color and was topped by a tight, frothy, two-finger tall crown of light beige foam. The head slowly dropped to a cap of bubbles encased by a thick ring. A sheet of drippy lacing cascaded down the glass. The lacing later transformed into large, sudsy drops. As the beer warmed, the chill haze eased up to reveal a nearly crystal clear body.
Coffee was apparent in the aroma. Not super strong but definitely a nice accent. Good dose of caramel malts. Bready, doughy and sweet. This reminded me a bit of freshly baked pastries. Slightly biscuity. Really interesting and unique interplay of various elements. As the beer warmed, the coffee intensified.
The flavor profile followed suit on the nose. Coffee was again noticeable and added to the overall complexity. The citrusy, lighter roast Ethiopian coffee worked perfectly with the citrusy hop notes. Loads of caramel malts. Sweet yet not overly so. Fruity. Doughy and bready. Challah came to mind. Touch of piney hops on the finish. Just enough for balance. At 10% ABV, the booze was nearly undetectable.
Terrific mouthfeel. Medium bodied for the style and somewhat syrupy. The beer contained a super fine, zippy effervescence that quickly settled down and turned the liquid smooth and supple. Uber soft and creamy. By the end of the session, a slightly sticky film coated my lips.
Trillium's hoppy beers are amazingly fruity and complex, but this barkeywine really won me over with its subtleties and finesse. Unlike most coffee-infused stouts, the coffee flavor in this beer was lively and bright and provided the perfect accent to an otherwise terrific brew. I would love to see other breweries be more creative with the use of coffee in their beers.

750ml bottle dated 09/29/15
Pours a relatively clear burnt orange in color with 1.5 fingers of light khaki colored head, good retention, light lacing. Aroma is coffee, cocoa, some dark fruit, lightly malty. A touch of malt upfront followed by coffee, cocoa, and some hints of dark fruit. Finish is slightly bitter. Medium-full body, low to moderate carbonation yields a creamy texture. Alcohol is very well masked, a slight warming is the only hint at the 10% abv. Overall this beer would appear to be much more then the sum of its parts. There is a good balance here, this is still a barleywine with coffee but the addition of the coffee isn't heavy handed. The coffee is the dominant flavor but it isn't overwhelming.
