This special edition of Free Rise, one of our signature farmhouse ales, highlights locally sourced Danko Rye from Valley Malt and Motueka in the dry hop. A green melon and lime hop profile is balanced with subtle earthy malt character and a powerful black pepper spice. Light in body, with a clean, bone-dry finish, Motueka Dry Hopped Free Rise is a welcomed addition to our family of farmhouse ales.

MALT: Pilsner, Valley Wheat, Flaked Wheat, Dextrose

Can dated 12-May-17! Looks like a hazy ipa, not a murky one! Smells initially is fruity and then the black pepper, banana notes of the classic saison come through. The taste is complex and in layers of fruits, pepper, banana, cracker malts. The feel is light and dry in the back with some bitterness from those hops. Overall The best addition of the regular Free Rise series!

Orange, hints of banana, lemon pineapple and some grapefruit. Medium bodied. Lower carbed. This strays closer to an IPA than the other batches of Free Rises. Maybe it's the Motueka. I'm digging it.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Canton, MA
Canned on 12-MAY-17
Served in a tulip

Hazy, pale straw yellow appearance. The body was capped by a frothy, finger-tall, bright white crown that quickly dropped to a small ringlet. Minimal spotty lacing.

The aroma was intense and pretty spot-on for the style. Belgian yeast notes came through big time. Really crisp and bold. Loads of spicy phenols. Huge clove and coriander presence. Strong white pepper notes too. Moderately fruity and sweet. Orange peel was apparent. Touch of alcohol as well.

The flavor profile was quite similar to the nose. Big rustic, Belgian farmhouse notes on the front end. Orange peel and spices came through strong. Clove and coriander again for sure. Some grains of paradise perhaps too. Slightly sweet. Tart and wheaty in the center. Lemon was noticeable. The beer finished with grassy and earthy hop notes and more orange peel. Slightly pithy and bitter. Nicely balanced overall.

Terrific crisp, frothy and fluffy mouthfeel. Highly effervescent. Medium-full bodied for the style. Super smooth and supple. Fantastic.

This is a terrific, hopped up and spiced up (yet still balanced) "Americanized" version of a saison by the folks at Trillium. That said, the glass I had on tap at the brewery was far hoppier and fruitier than this month old can. Both were excellent, albeit very different beers.
