Our Fated Farmer Series is a landmark step toward realizing our foundational vision for Trillium: Build a place that intuitively celebrates the intersection of New England farming, agriculture, brewing and an integrated community experience. The grist of each of the dynamic Fated Farmer wild ales is set on the structure of Valley Malt and is barrel fermented in 500L puncheons with our Native New England Wild Culture and aged for 5-7 months, before refermenting on freshly harvested fruit.

Fated Farmer: Red Currant (sourced from Wards Berry Farm in Sharon, MA) presents a warm, orange-pink hue, with a leaping nose of rose of pinot noir, and hints of strawberry and fermentation derived overripe stonefruit. The palate leads with tart wild berry flavor and mellows into a subtle sweetness, slight tannic structure and snappy, pleasing finish.

MALT: Valley Pilsner, Valley Wheat

HOPS: Aged Hops

A 750ml bottle, bottled on 21st December 2017. Poured into a Cantillon ballon glass.

Appearance: A slightly hazy golden orange colour with a thin white head that dissipated quickly, while leaving only sparse lacing.

Aroma: Soft funky, oak, vanilla, red berry tartness, with yellow stone fruit.

Taste: Sour, tart, mixed berries, red currant, stone fruit, peach, with soft vinegar notes.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Good balance of funk, fruit and barrel in both aroma and taste, but it is especially so in the aroma. I didn’t get to try it fresh, but I think some age might have had a good effect on it.

A: hazy; peach colored; less than a 1 finger off white head that receded quickly to a thin collar; no lacing;

S: funk with a little red currant;

T: vinegary funk with a hint of red currant from start to finish; mild tartness at the end and through the aftertaste;

M: light bodied; lightly carbonated; dry finish;

O: I really like red currants; their sourness is a perfect set up for a wild ale; the lack of any significan fruit in the aroma or flavor was disappointing;

750 ml bottle dated Dec. 2017, drank Nov. 19, 2019.

Quick notes - musty and Flemish tasting first, tasted the currants second with a bit of thick tartness. Really nice beer.

Just overpowering, acidity and sourness is the best to describe it, got a bit better as I drank it but not something Id want more than a sip or two of again

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice crystal clear golden honey hue with a thin white head that fades to leave a light halo.

S - Aromas of nice tart red currants light grist and wheat.

T - Taste is similar to the nose with tart grape skins, however, there is just a whole lot of unpleasantness going on. The tartness is nice but it's cloy and almost garbage like.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, flemmy, very flemmy.

O - Overall this was a an interesting beer to start but man oh man was the taste and mouth unpleasant.

Fated Farmer series does an exceptional job showcasing the fruit from which it gets both it's hue and flavor. The NE yeast strain seems to have been tamed a bit from earlier Soaks so the fruit can shine.

Like the description says - orange-pink hue like rose'. The wine comparisons stick around with notes of red wine grapes, pint gris complemented by a lilikoi and red raspberries. I do not know what a currant tastes like. Clearly.

Refreshingly tart but not at a level that you can take a nice pull, swallow and enjoy the fresh breeze on your palate - this still has a sour punch.

Crisp and tart on the tongue - share the bottle and do your stomach lining a favor.

Virtually no fruit flavor. Mostly getting lemon, yogurt and lacto. Clean grain malt. Medium bodied. In your face sourness. Eh, these are good, but I want more fruit flavor, less sourness. Might be too much to ask for.
