Spectacle Island is perhaps the easiest Harbor Island to visit, with regular ferries running between city and shore. It carries a storied history that includes farming, a series of functioning businesses, and a conservation-focused rebirth following its role as a receiving site for topsoil excavated from the Big Dig. Spectacle Island is the highest point in the Boston Harbor, with five miles of walking trails, sand beaches, and a sea kayaking area, all culminating in spectacular views of the city skyline and the surrounding islands.
Pouring an eye catching, golden orange hue with above average haze, Spectacle Island IPA’s signature Galaxy hop provides a distinctively tropical nose with aromatics of ripe pineapple, evergreen tips, Meyer lemon peel and fresh squeezed orange. These flavors build on the palate with pronounced notes of tangelo pulp, melon rind, and yellow nectarine underlined by a touch of biscuity malt. A fleck of pine provides a light balancing bite while a fuller, pillowy mouthfeel lends itself to a soft, smooth finish.
MALT: Pale Malt, Honey Malt, Victory Malt
HOPS: Galaxy

16oz can dated 8/7/19.
Pours murky gold with an inch of white fluff. Nice retention and lacing. White grape with peach and grapefruit in the nose. Medium bodied with a creamy, chaulky mouthfeel. Ripe tropicals on the palate with some light malt minimal bitterness. Grape, peach, and mango. Finishes a bit sweet with lingering citrus and honey.

L - lovely rotten banana brownish yellow. Thick, dark, murky haze. Some of that yellow seeps into the white fluffy head. About a finger there.
S - pineapple, greens, and ripe mango. Hop oils and lots of grain. Maybe a touch of spruce.
T - sweet, but cooling spruce tips. Earthy and hop-saturated, resulting in meaty flavor robust with graininess and strone fruit ripeness. Honey and a bit of white wine. Finishes with a bit of resin and dryness.
F - thick, chewy, and hearty. Satisfying carbonation with palatable viscosity. Smooth and supple. Nicely done.
O - extremely saturated and juicy without cloying fruity sugar flavors. Heavy and humid. Great use of piney evergreen type flavors without making that the sole focus. Has backbone to avoid gimmick-status.

Dated 4/30/19 on the bottom of the can, 7 weeks since brewing.
Pours an opaque deep orange-gold with fingers of pillowy off-white head. Nose of honeydew melon, tangerine, mango, lemon, pine needles and sweet honeyed bun malt. Taste follows the nose with a stronger focus on a orange rind with honeyed sweet rolls. Medium bitterness, a little kick up from the normal tropical smoothie Trillium brew. Medium+ sweetness, low rolling carbonation leading to a soft medium body. Undetectable 6.8% ABV. Love the extra kick of bitterness in to what otherwards would be a citrus and melon smoothie. Another great brew!
