Permutation is our experimental series of small batch offerings, showcasing the unique visions and innovative concepts developed by our brewing and cellar crew.
For Number 57 we blended an imperial milk stout aged in cognac puncheons and bourbon barrels with milk stout newly brewed in stainless steel fermenters. Next, coconut and vanilla joined the recipe for an added layer of dessert-like decadence. At 13.2%, Permutation 57 is perfect to round out a meal with friends.
Out of the bottle the beer is dark as can be, with a hazel brown head. Toasted coconut hits the nose, accompanied by hints of bourbon and burnt sugar. Notes of brownie batter, milk chocolate, brown sugar, and of course, more coconut, layer this indulgent beverage. A velvety-smooth mouthfeel brings it all together.
MALT: Pale Malt, Cara Pils, Caramel Malt, Munich Malt, Black Malt, Roasted Barley, Chocolate Malt, Flaked Oats, White Wheat, Special B
HOPS: Hop bittering extract, CTZ

Poured from fridge temp. Pours motor oil black with a bit of brown head. Nose is vanilla, milk chocolate, toffee, licorice. Taste is coconut, vanilla, chocolate, licorice, cream, marshmallow, and dark fruit. Wow - quite the thick and creamy beer! Mouthfeel is super thick and viscous. Overall, a fantastic pastry stout.

Clean and smooth black liquid with a tan foam.
Smells like straight booze.
Flavor is incredible. Liquified toasted almonds and melted chocolate.
Smooth, creamy texture, rediculously full bodied. Hides the alcohol well.
Great beer.

Dull black with burnt red edges and mini mocha pearls for a blanket settling to a ring.
Sharp, nutty acidic coffee pairs with mild coconut and vanilla with a bubbly carbonation and a sticky chocolaty finish that's a little woody.

poured into a taster glass via draft at Other Half's Pastry Town (3/16/2019)
one of the last beers I had at the festival, so my memory is a little foggy here but,
the coconut and vanilla were a bit muted by the barrel presence, yet the flavors mixed nicely here
and this was a nice way to finish out pastry town!

Pours dark, thick black with minimal head or lacing. Aromas are dominated by dark fruits and some vanilla, fudgy character. Not getting any coconut or vanilla in the flavors, but definitely lots of cognac and bourbon. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel with minimal carb.
