Drank on tap at Trillium Brewing Company, Canton, MA
Served in a tulip
The oily, pitch black liquid was capped by a thin film of khaki colored froth that quickly dissolved. No lacing or head retention whatsoever.
The aroma was strange and reminded me of a Cape Cod Potato Chip infused stout. Quite salty and savory with a subtle vegetal character. Roasted malts were apparent. There was a fairly strong oxidized note too, but this dissipated as the beer opened up. Touch of brown sugar sweetness.
The flavor profile also contained an odd, salty, potato chip-like quality. Rich and roasty up front. Quite nutty in the center. More roasted malt character on the back end and the finish. Hint of brown sugar sweetness. The beer finished with more roasty bitterness, booze and a bit of lingering char.
Thinner bodied mouthfeel for the style. The liquid contained a very fine and mild effervescence. By mid glass, I could feel a sweet, sticky film on my lips.
Color and Grain with Pecans is a rather strange imperial stout that smelled and tasted surprisingly like Cape Cod Potato Chips and seemed somewhat thin in both flavor and texture. Not a bad offering per se but definitely not one I care to revisit.
