Our tour of the New England coastline continues with Butler Flats Lighthouse. Like the Harbor Island IPAs, our brewing team's innovative Permutations were the genesis for these beers. With amplified strength, the Lighthouses will continue to showcase specific hops while paying homage to historic New England landmarks.

A trusted guide in New Bedford’s outer harbor at the mouth of the Acushnet River, Butler Flats Lighthouse’ distinctive sparkplug design has allowed it to withstand harsh weather conditions since 1898.

Butler Flats Lighthouse' eponymous beer is a double IPA brewed with Simcoe hops and pours a dark yellow with moderate haze. On the nose a bright orange peel character melds with ripe pineapple leading to a palate rich with flavors of fresh apricots and honeydew melon. A soft mouthfeel and a medium body gives Butler Flats an even balance - it displays a touch of orange blossom honey sweetness with restrained hop character on the finish.

MALT: Pale Malt, Honey Malt
HOPS: Simcoe

Butler Flats pours an opaque golden orange with a thick, complex and creamy head that lingers with lots of lacing. The smell, is sweet peach with a subtle tropical fruit including pineapple, orange and ripe melon. The taste is very juicy and sweet with a strong Simcoe presence up front and hop dankness with a hint of bitterness that gives way to a a sweet honey on the back side.

I stare glumly at the 16 oz. can as my stash of Trillium from our October swing east dwindles. As well it should. Dated 10/1/18. I think.

The pour is opaque orange, & all I can see is orange juice after having seen the style described as such about 16 million times. Big hit of grapefruit, pineapple, & citrus in the nose.

Butler Flats Lighthouse is pithy as hell. Grapefruit pith for miles, with liberal additions of pineapple pith & pine pith. Pulpier than a Zane Grey novel. Nice pop of bitterness on the finish to keep this from fruit beer territory, with a fuzzy-tongued finish. Touch of booziness.

Lovey mashup of east v. west coast, fruitiness edged with bitterness. I approve. Excellent brew.

This one pours an exceptionally hazy bright orange color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like canned sweet peaches, lemon, melon, orange blossom honey, and a little bit of pine.

The taste is basically the same- it's got a very pleasant honey sweetness. It's not too sweet, but definitely provides a candied flavor to the fruity hop tones- lemon, melon, and lots of peach. There's just the slightest hint of bitterness.

This is medium bodied, pillowy and fluffy, with a good level of carbonation, and a high level of drinkability.

This is one of the better IPAs I've had in a bit now. This is definitely excellent.
