Nestled in the bay just off the coast, Boston's Harbor Islands are rich with history and intrigue. Each is known for its unique appeal and backstory, with a string of larger narratives tying them together en masse. The Harbor Islands IPA series grew out of the exploration that took place in our Permutation Series, where we developed a new series of IPAs that showcases extraordinary hops, building on our team's experience brewing hoppy beer at Trillium.
Bumpkin Island is small yet picturesque, offering great views of the other major harbor islands and the city of Hull. The island was leased to tenant farmers in the colonial period, hosted a fish-drying operation in the early nineteenth century, and a fish smelting operation in the early twentieth century.
Pouring an amber orange hue with moderate haze, Bumpkin Island IPA’s signature Mosaic hop offers a nose rich with aromas of ripe pineapple, lychee, and tangerine. These flavors extend through to the palate with notes of fresh cantaloupe and are underlined by a touch of biscuity malt. Accents of zesty pine provide light balancing bite while a fuller, pillowy mouthfeel lends itself to a soft, smooth finish.
MALT: Pale Malt, Honey Malt, Victory Malt
HOPS: Mosaic

Dated 6/25/19 on the bottom of the can, 12 days since brewing.
Pours a very hazy darker orange tan with two fingers of creamy off-white head. Nose starts of with a spicy stone fruit, followed by notes of over-ripened mango, "spicy" grassiness, slight blueberry, pine, honeydew and toasted Portuguese bread. Great varied aroma! Taste consolidates the Portuguese bread, stone fruit, melon and spiciness to form a bit of tropical fruit pie with a kick. How this is a single hop brew (Mosaic) is beyond me. I also get a bit of lemon peel, bubblegum and black tea at the end of the swallow. Medium body with a little bit of sticky back end; medium sweetness, medium- drying and low+ bitterness. Another fantastic brew from Trillium, love the range of flavors they've gotten from a single hop. Bonkers.

Canned 16 ounces of haze with a 10/16/18 stamp on the bottom. Love the contour lines on the can. Reminds me of the glory days when the lakes weren’t locked in fifty feet of ice.
The pour is a dark, pineappley orange with a nose pungent with pineapple & tangerine. Nice.
Bumpkin Island is a place I’d like to visit, especially that point off the sharp break. Tangerine & pineapple follow the nose right into my throat, with a sharp, pine-addled, acidic bitterness. Whopping dose of sugary sweetness that rubs right up against cloying mid-palate, gives way to pure OJ on the finish. Thick & sweet, this one should probably come in a stubbier can.
A kissing cousin to Sunny D, this is great up front before diving into a kiddie pool of sugar-coated excess. Coulda been great. As is just good.

Grows on me, superior NEIPA in the Trillium style and good citrus grapefruit and orange taste. Thicker mouthfeel, tongue numbing. Thanks for the hookup, B.
