Permutation is our experimental series of small batch offerings, showcasing the unique visions and innovative concepts developed by our brewing and cellar crew.

Brewed at our Fort Point location, Permutation #89 is our first take on a dark lager. Drawing inspiration from classic German Schwarzbiers, Permutation #89 pairs richly roasted malt aromas with a clean lager fermentation to deliver notes of bread crust, iced coffee, faint smoke, and caramelized nuts. The palate follows closely with rounded flavors of bittersweet chocolate and toasted bread extending right through to the finish balanced by a spicy and delicate noble hop bitterness. Pouring a deep umber brown with copper highlights and a large persistent off-white head, Permutation #89 has a medium body and smooth, drying finish.

MALT: Pilsner, Chocolate, Caramunich, C-80, Carafa 3, Melanoidin

HOPS: Hallertau Magnum

This review might make it official - I'm a fanboy of Trillium's recent lagers: pale, foeder-aged, rice and dark.

Charcoal body with brown around the edges. Thick sandy head that lingers. Looks great in a glass.

Aroma is roasted malts, light smoke that isn't overpowering, toasted bread, nuts and grains. Coffee always seems to pop up in reviews with any dark beer but I got none; porter or stout this is not.

Taste had a nice malty sweetness balanced by the char and a light grassy hop bitterness. Pretzel somewhere in there. Nailed it.

Full bodied but still lager-esque in its crispness and lighter feel.

Pitch black with nice sand head and good lacing.
Burnt Carmel and dark malt. Taste has just the right about of roast and malt bitterness notes great flavor.
Clean and crisp and leaves me wanting more.
Have to admit been a trill hater last 6 months but this I would love to see in cans
