Gurnet Lighthouse may look familiar to Duxbury and Plymouth natives. Nestled on the South Shore of Boston, this landmark is a perfect one to honor in our Lighthouse Series. In the 1700s, Plymouth-native Hannah Thomas assumed control of the Gurnet Lighthouse property when her husband died and became the country's first female lighthouse-keeper on record. The lighthouse was mostly consumed by a fire in the 1800s, but was rebuilt and restrengthened multiple times over the century. It stands tall today as a beacon of resilience, dedication and the pioneering spirit of our region.
Gurnet Lighthouse's eponymous beer is a Double IPA brewed with Austrialian Vic Secret hops and pours with a hazy light orange coloring. Swirling the glass, tropical aromas of pineapple slices, passion fruit, lemongrass, and ripe papaya greet the nose leading into a palate rich with flavors of lemon-orange sorbet, cantaloupe, and fresh peach. Balanced by a touch of bready malt with a gentle and rounded pine bitterness, Gurnet Lighthouse has a medium body, soft carbonation and smooth, mouthwatering finish.
MALT: Pale Malt, Honey Malt
HOPS: Vic Secret

Look: light amber. Decently opaque. Creamy finger and a half off white head that dissipates slowly. Moderate lacing.
Smell: OJ, Grapefruit, Honey, slightly dank. Some toasted oats.
Taste: big malt presence here complemented by a drying bitterness. Rye bread spiciness. Definitely some OJ and grapefruit in there but it’s all malt at the front quickly followed by mouth puckering bitter hops.
Feel: moderate carbonation with a decent weight to the mouthfeel. Pretty spot on.
Overall: a very malt forward yet bitter take on the style. It’s a little heavy to have any more than one but I enjoyed this one. Not on Tree House’s level from a refinement standpoint, but a good beer in its own right.

Dated 5/1/19 on the bottom of the can, 6 weeks since brewing.
Pours a pale orange gold with two fingers of incredibly resilient creamy head. Honestly, it looks like whipped cream on top of the beer and it's still there 5 minutes later. Nose of orange creamsicle, papaya, cantaloupe, ever so slight lime, passion fruit bubblegum, cedarwood and a light wheat bread. Taste follows the nose with a heavier emphasis on the breadiness, cedar and pink grapefruit rind. Unfortunately, unlike Trillium's other brews, this 8.9% ABV brew has a touch of alcohol on the taste, gotta knock it for that. Mouthfeel is a smooth medium with carbonation on the lighter side, leading to smoothie vibes. Low+ on the bitterness, medium sweetness. The standout from the crowd factor on this brew aside from other Trillium IPAs is the head. It's probably the creamiest and highest head retention I've had with their DIPA++ brews. If you don't mind the small tang of alcohol, it's a great brew!

Canned on 05/01/19. Wooo, this beer is a heavy hitter. Big on the melon and finishes with pine and earth, both the aroma and flavor. Incredibly thick and creamy with with negligible bitterness, which is expected for the style. Unique and top notch!

On draft at Trillium. Snifter glass. Standard cloudy golden yellow body, one finger white head. Smell is fairly grainy, toasted malt, moderate grapefruit and resin. It's a bit more straight forward on the palate, a bit more bland with a heavier graininess to it. Medium lighter bodied, more of that graininess, kind of a hopped up barley cookie.

From a can dated 5/1/19. Generally like the Lighthouse series. This DIPA was good not great like others (Minot's). Trillium has done a good job with a lot of their higher ABV beers not being too strong. This is not one of them. Notes of mango and pineapple. A good beer but not in the echelon of others IMO.

A little boozy, sweet, caramelized bready honey malt, dank earthy herbal floral piney hops, lemony orange sorbet, cantaloupe melon, peach, papaya, passionfruit, pineapple, mango, lemongrass
