The Fort Point Channel Harborwalk offers some of the best views of Downtown Boston and the Old Northern Avenue Bridge. An ode to this iconic path, portraying its distinctive and resolute nautical bollards and chains on its label, Double Pier is an Imperial Wheat Ale brewed to celebrate summer evening strolls along our of our favorite spots in the Fort Point neighborhood.

Bumping up the base recipe of the original iteration of Pier and drawing inspiration from the experiences brewing other Imperial IPAs with higher wheat proportions in the malt bill like Deciduous 2017 and Permutation #61, we whirlpooled Double Pier with Citra before massively double dry hopping with Citra and Galaxy. Pouring a hazy and vibrant golden orange color with a fluffy white head, Double Pier has lifts captivating aromatics of fresh lemon wedges, orange blossom honey, ripe melon, and floral hops. Taking a sip, the palate is greeted with bright flavors of pink grapefruit, clementine and white peach with accents of tropical lychee and mango. Balanced by a touch creamy wheat and a delicate grassy bite, Double Pier has a pillowy soft mouthfeel and refreshingly smooth finish.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a stemmed harmony glass.

Pours an opaque golden straw color with a finger of creamy white head. The head leaves a ton of sticky cobweb lacing before settling into a thin sheet.

The aroma brings notes of pineapple and orange with some hints of wheat bread.

The flavor brings lots of orange and peach, as well as a touch of grapefruit, vanilla cream and pineapple. Finishes with some earthy bitterness.

The feel is medium bodied with soft carbonation. Creamy and smooth. Pillowy.

Overall, a pretty good beer that is juicy and hoppy yet relatively well-balanced. Worth trying again.

A - Pale orange body, milky and opaque, short white head, small bubble lacing.

S - Strong hit of citrus, orange and bright pineapple and tropical fruits. Smells delicious.

T - Flavor follows the nose, with a huge orange core, resin and pine highlights, a bit of pith and grapefruit.

M - Opens with hop resin and moderate weight, but nothing suggests the burly ABV. Silky and soft turns more chewy in the close.

O - This is superb. Rich flavor and lush feel, with enough dryness in the finish to keep it moving quickly. Incredible work.

Nice hazy look in glass, but pretty standard for a NEIPA, wheat or otherwise

Smell: faint hints of fruit, especially orange

Taste: Almost the perfect beer in that there are absolutely no imperfections nor are there any positive attributes of note. Zed, neutral, disappearing. Some beers are "tasteless" in a bad way because they are thin, or flavorless but with unappealing aspects. This is just "not there". My new standard for what a "2,5" should be.

Feel: Between light and medium, but unimportant in this case.

Overall: A staggering achievement in realizing the perfect null. By contrast I had a another new beer this week, Super Treat from Treehouse, which is an improbable improvement on the already superlative Treat. Makes you realize the drive to Charlton isn't that burdensome (from inside 128) when comparing these two.

Canned on 05/07/19 “Wheat is neat!”
WOW! This is spectacular! Picked up a can at the brewery and now wish I snagged at least a 4-pack. One of the most delicious “wheat beers” I’ve ever experienced. So damn fruity, silky smooth, and perfectly spiced in the finish from the wheat. But also suuuuper dank, resinous, and almost bitter. A palate wrecker for sure. For the style, even though it’s heavily hopped, this is one of the best in the world, no doubt.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a tulip glass. Canned on 5/8/19.

Bright, opaque orange color with white head and some lacing. Juicy tangerine, pineapple, and peach on the nose. Bright flavors of citrus, tropical fruit (pineapple, mango), with a nice bite of bitter hops on the finish. Thick, oily, hoppy mouthfeel that lingers on the palate.

Considering this one is 8.7%, it’s really drinkable and refreshing. Thought it would be heavy.

I’ve been drinking Trillium’s IPAs pretty regularly and this is one of the better ones I’ve had in a while. Maybe the wheat is setting it apart from the others.
