Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head. Aroma of roasted malt with light coffee notes is enjoyable. Taste is also a mix of floral coffee notes with some residual sugar notes with some lactose easily identifiable. Body is pretty full with oily like texture. Enjoyable coffee stout with enough sugar notes to offset some of the bitterness.

Appearance - Served up in a tallish snifter, black with cola brown edging and a mostly barren surface. Thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. A few small spots make up the lacing.

Smell - Sweet, cookie-ish aroma with lesser chocolate and roast. Light booziness as well.

Taste - Follows the nose. Cookie like sweetness, boozy heat and milk chocolate upfront and throughout. Fair coffee toast in the finish, then a slight nuttiness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low carbonation. Creamy texture before a dry, sticky, syrupy finish.

Overall - Pretty good, but a little too sweet and syrupy for me to drink any more than this 8oz pour. Just enough roast to keep it from being cloying.

 

pours a dark brown. aroma is an amazing combination of coffee, chocolate and vanilla. The taste does not disappoint with lots of coffee, lactose, chocolate and vanilla throughout. Very much like a decadent dessert. The feel is full bodied. Overall an incredible stout.

Lackluster appearance. The beer spewed what appeared to be some trub initially before pouring a medium bodied, dark brown/black. A small, finely beaded, saddle brown head capped the liquid, but it quickly dissolved. Once settled in the glass, the beer looked pretty murky. Small particles could be seen atop the body. A few tiny dots of lacing trickled down the sides of the vessel.

The aroma was fantastic. Coffee notes came through big time initially. Freshly brewed coffee to be exact. Vanilla and creamy lactose notes were also apparent. The almond character was also quite noticeable. Amaretto came to mind. As the beer sat, the coffee presence decreased, but some fruity notes appeared. Plums and raisins perhaps. The almond also intensified.

The flavor was even better than the nose. Huge coffee notes. Medium roast coffee specifically. Really punchy and bold. Nice rich malty backbone. Loads of brown sugar too. Sweet but not excessively so. Almond notes appeared in the center. Again, amaretto came to mind. Good dose of vanilla and creamy lactose as well. More roasted malts, almonds and lingering booze on the back end and the finish. For 13.8% ABV, however, the alcohol was quite well buried.

Outstanding rich, full bodied mouthfeel. Uber creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. Heavy whipping cream came to mind. The liquid contained an ultra fine, fairly zippy effervescence that frothed up beautifully.

Biscotti and Coffee is a fantastic Trillium pastry stout that really showcases the adjuncts. I look forward to a barrel-aged version of this one day.

 

 

 

This pours an oddly consistent dark brown, never changing to black, even at full glass. It's rare that I have seen that--it's almost like melted chocolate. A super creamy tan head builds, settling to a thin chain around a sort of globby silky surface.

Taste is creamy milky mocha through a moderately thick body with a tingly fine carbonation finishing semi-sticky. It's like dark chocolate ganache with almond and walnut notes, as well as an accent of butterscotch wafer with vanilla creme.

There are no off-notes at all--it's decadent, rich, and not at all a breakfast beer, even though I tried for it to be. Total dessert for reals, with hints of licorice and Riesen emerging as it warms.

The nose brings chocolate, booziness, cold brewed coffee.

The taste brings much of the same. Chocolate, fudge brownies, cold brewed coffee.

Thick, sweet but not sickly sweet because the coffee cuts through it.

The beer pours a nice tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves the dark brown beer that comes along with a bit of trub. The texture is interesting it has a very thick middle but the edges seem to be a bit thinners than the rest of the beer.

The smell is delicious. The light toffee and chocolate with a hint of bitterness from the coffee comes upfront. The biscotti is fairly light with a bit of cinnamon and there isn't much of the other notes.

The taste is absolutely freaking indulgent and sweet. All of the notes that can't be found in the smell come out in full force. The biscotti comes right up front with a delicious brown sugar note supplemented but a really sugary milk note. The coffee note is bitter with a bit of chocolate note to it. The vanilla comes out really well with a light touch in the finish along with a lasting toffee note to it that goes well into the finish. Overall, it tastes like a really good Italian coffee.

Th feel is pretty good. It has a good heavy body with a bit of creaminess and a good slight heft of whipped cream towards the end.

Overall, this was a fantastic beer and worth spending my time on. It has a very strong flavor profile and is a great way to start your day.

L - this was stored upright through and through, but immediately out of the spout comes what looks like trub. It's a milky shade of tan and then the dark brown comes. Odd. Not sure it's supposed to do that. Pours a black hole of brown... a brown hole? Heh. Fizzy head that quickly dissipates and isn't quiet about it.

S - toffee and coffee. Brown sugar, cinnamon, sugar cookies, and graham crackers. Hints of blue paint and industrial cleaner. Must be the bitterness from the raw coffee beans. Could even be almonds giving off that adhesive aroma.

T - nails the biscotti. I'm sitting on an airplane sipping black coffee and nibbling on biscotti cookies. Rich, bittersweet fudge and iced coffee with sugar. Not much cream; it's still mostly black. Perhaps some caramel drizzle or hazelnut blend. Dark fruits a la raisins, figs, and plums. Earl Grey tea and crisp nuttiness. Sweet, but tamed with a balanced dryness and black coffee bitterness to keep you sippin'.

F - syrupy with lively carbonation for a beer of this ABV. Imparts a tacky stickiness on the palate and complements both the sweet and bitter aspects of this beer.

O - it's not terribly complex, but it's good at what it does. Rich, invigorating, penetrating flavor that nails the various subtleties of black coffee delicately peppered with raw cane sugar and hazelnut syrup. The biscotti crackery...ness adds a backbone to support the nearly 14% ABV. A great Sunday morning sipper.
