Collaboration with The Veil Brewing Co.
Two years ago, we teamed up with our adult, human buddies at The Veil to brew a Double IPA with blood oranges. We've both done some growing up in the time since and felt it was the perfect time to release a more mature collaboration.
Mature Adult Human, the sophisticated version of Adult Human, is a Triple IPA brewed with blood oranges. We amplified the fruit additions to achieve a nose bursting with huge citrus pith aromas. On the palate, notes grapefruit rind, freshly zested orange peel, and dank tangerine meld together accentuated by a delightful, balancing acidity and creamy mouthfeel. Mature Adult Human pairs well with paying bills, folding laundry, and washing the dishes.
MALT: Pilsner Malt, White Wheat
HOPS: Citra
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS: Blood Orange

This was such an odd beer in so many ways. For starters, the brewers involved in the collaboration weren't quite alike and it showed in the end result here. Then, this didn't taste or feel like any other American Imperial IPA that I'd ever had before. Finally, the presence of blood orange was so strong that it nearly overpowered everything else that was going on here. No, this wasn't a drain pour but this was a nearly one-dimensional beer that was not as good as what either of these breweries were capable of on their own.
Such a murky, cloudy banana and melon hue to this as this could have been a bit brighter and clearer in appearance. The head settled quickly and there wasn't *any* lacing to be seen as I worked my way trough this. Tons of citrus pith and blood orange juice and sweetness on the nose as this almost felt artificial from the first whiff. Lots of zest, syrup, and overly sweet juice in the taste as this was just too heavy-handed and forced for me to like. Eventually, this came across as a hyperbolic form of Sunny Delight that was too juicy and tart for me to rate any higher on here. A good amount of aromatic lime kept me from rating this any lower as the mouthfeel was full and slick, as it turned out to be this beer's saving grace.
Enough booze was in this as I had to look on the can to believe that this contained that much alcohol in it. Dated 8/26/19 on the bottom of the can, this held up well over time but was just not good enough for me to rate any higher as it felt like a soda with some alcohol thrown in to beef it up. Not a drain pour by any means, this was just a letdown and too that needed it's purported creamy mouthfeel and less hop burn in the aftertaste to be considered a great brew. Have it once for the novelty factor and to determine whether it's as much a Fruit/Vegetable beer as much as it was an IPA...

16oz can.
Pours murky gold with a short-lived head of white. Zero retention or lacing. Tangerine and grapefruit in the nose. Medium bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel. Ripe blood orange with tart grapefruit on the palate. Finishes with a solid bitterness, lingering orange and grapefruit.
