The Emerald Necklace series tells a foundational piece of the Trillium Brewing story. If you’ve visited our home of Boston, you’ve likely encountered and enjoyed a section of the Emerald Necklace. Beginning downtown at the Boston Common and Public Garden, extending out to Back Bay, and all the way to Dorchester, this 1,100 acre, seven-mile-long public park system is a cherished green oasis in the heart of the city. Years ago, JC cultivated a plot in the Fenway Victory Gardens, where he grew edible and decorative plants, trees, and even some hop bines! We're kicking off the Emerald Necklace series with The Fens! Hopped with the incredibly vibrant and aromatic duo of Mosaic and Galaxy, this beer is profoundly tropical. Intense notes of fresh stone fruit, mango juice, pineapple, and pine dance across the palate. Pillowy soft with a creamy mouthfeel and dry finish, The Fens is a joy to drink.
Hops: Mosaic, Galaxy
Malt: Rahr 2 Row, Flaked Wheat, Caramalt 15

Picked up a four pack of cans at Curtis Liquors in Cohasset, Massachusetts for about twenty dollars. My ninety sixth brew from these guys. Pretty good, very expensive.

16 oz can. Pours muddy golden with tall, long lasting, fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops, bready malt and tropical fruit. Body is full and crisp. Herbal hops dominate the palate with bready malt and tropical fruit in the background. Finish is long and dry. I’m just not a fan of the style.

Pours a milky, light orange with a 2F head and heavy lacing.

Smells of grassy, piney hops with sweet fruit and citrus.

Tastes of lightly tart grapefruit, orange, pineapple and mango with a slightly bitter finish.

Medium light body with light prickily carbonation. Oats-in-the- mash smooth, crisp and dry mouthfeel.

Balanced, complex and delicious!

Opaque, dark golden orange in color. Soapy white head. Good retention.

Fruit aroma, overripe mango, green papaya, slightly musty, slightly cardboardy.

Nice mango, orange, and apricot flavor. Smooth. No hop burn astringency or chalkiness, thank God. Somewhat bland, though. A hint of cardboardy oxidation.

Smooth feel. Moderate carbonation. Silky and pillowy enough without overwhelming the palate.

A decent NEIPA. Didn't meet expectations, but was inoffensive.

Pours a cloudy yellow like pineapple juice, looks like peach in the glass; thick, white head, dense and rocky; nice patches and partial rings of foam inside the glass. Very subdued aroma; mild tropical fruit notes. Excellent, balanced taste; light biscuit grain base with a light citrus flavor; grapefruit; moderate sense of hop bitterness. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; lightly acidic; light overall dryness.

This is a nice, unassuming hazy India pale ale.

Another treat from the Trillum drop this summer. Pours hazy, thick and creamy.
I’m surprised by how silent the aroma is on this, even after opening. The sip is incredibly smooth.
