We released Vicinity for the first time on November 13th, 2014 to celebrate the first anniversary of our Congress Street neighbors, Row 34. Due to licensing and space restrictions, we weren't able to offer pours or even tasters out of our original Fort Point location. Because of their support of Trillium from the day they opened their doors, the renowned seafood restaurant and raw bar often acted as a de facto tasting room for visitors to our budding neighborhood. Five years later seems like the perfect time to give our beloved Galaxy, Citra, and Columbus-hopped Double IPA the double dry-hopped treatment.
DDH Vicinity pours a glowing honey yellow color with a thick, creamy haze. Explosive aromas of mango nectar, pineapple sorbet, orange peel, and a touch of honeydew melon race across the palate. A velvety mouthfeel is greeted by a mild bitterness towards the end of each sip. Richly tropical, incredibly soft, and undeniably hop-saturated, Double Dry Hopped Vicinity is a thoroughly satisfying Double IPA.
ABV: 8%
Malt: Pilsner, C-15, Flaked Wheat
Hops: Galaxy, Citra, Columbus

Milky yellow pour very similar to pineapple juice in appearance. Rating it as 4 for the style, but I don't personally find this ultra- hazy look very appealing. Lively head that dissipates fairly quickly.
Smell is of pineapple and the melon thing that I find in every Trillium IPA, although here the pineapple takes center stage, accompanied by some notes of orange peel.
Taste is surprisingly (and pleasantly) dank and bitter given the fruit in the aroma, although the fruit notes (especially the melon) are definitely still there.
Mouthfeel is soft and coating - but not too thick, especially given it's a DIPA. Leaves behind a gentle bitterness that demands another sip.
Probably my favorite Trillium brew so far.

Picked up a four pack of cans at Luke's Liquors in Plymouth, Massachusetts for about twenty two dollars. My one hundredth brew reviewed from these guys. Very good, very expensive.

5 months old. Can to wine glass.
L: Pours a full and hazy milky yellow with a large-pored head that dissipates very quickly and doesn’t leave any lacing. No floaters.
S: Candied citrus fruits with hints of ripe strawberries, mango and white grapes. Fruity, sweet and bubblegummy.
T: Strong notes of candied grapefruit and orange mixed with rather fresh notes of strawberries and white grapes. A subtle sweetness is followed by bitter notes leading to a dry finish. Slightly green and grassy.
F: Full and juicy with a low carbonation and a zesty sharpness.
O: Even though this beer has been hiding in the back of my fridge for a couple of months, it tastes as fresh and hoppy as ever. The typical Trillium characteristics (no head, green notes, dry finish) are definitely there, but here they are very nicely balanced by a candied sweetness and some bubblegummy notes. Great beer. Probably the best Trillium IPA I‘ve had so far.

Pours a super cloudy banana peel yellow with a very thin, very airy off-white head that quickly bubbles away into a messy wisp that leaves no lacing.
Big tropical aroma of mango, pineapple, papaya and maybe a little orange, cantaloupe and vanilla-cream.
The strong tropical fruitiness of the aroma is replaced in the taste by some underripe melon and clear orange. Astringent bitterness comes on very strong when served cold, but thankfully softens as it warms — getting much closer to the citrus pithiness they were probably trying to hit on. Flashes of lemon-lime replace the orange impression. There’s some light underlying vanilla-cream and cut grass to it all, too, which is pleasant and adds some complexity.
The feel is probably soft and medium bodied, but is hard to get evaluate past the strong, tight fizziness of the beverage.
At first I really didn’t like this, but letting it warm up a bit improved it greatly. Enjoyable with a lot more depth than I originally picked out.

Well, I used to be a huge Trillium fan. Not sure what's happened to them over the last couple of years.
This beer pours very thick with very little head that disappears quickly. To say the appearance is turbid is an understatement. Not a good look - however this is very common with NEIPAs and as long as it hits on everything else, I look the other way.
Sadly, it does not. I'm basing this review on a 4-pack I had over a 4 week span. Each time there were issues, most notably hop burn and an overall off putting astringency. If chewing on orange peel is your thing, by all means. Not for me. The harshness didn't diminish much over time.
I wonder why reviewers continue to give them the benefit of the doubt and post high reviews? On Untappd I frequently see "should be great in a couple weeks!" "Need to sit on it a bit", etc. Nonsense! We're talking about IPAs here.
This isn't the only recent offering I've had issues with. I feel like some have simply gotten used to the harsh flavor notes, and are giving them a pass based on reputation. Much better IPAs available locally (Long Live as an example).
Yeesh.
