How many breweries does it take to conceive of a modern-day interpretation on a nearly extinct, yet incredibly complex traditional British Strong Ale closely related to Barleywine and Old Ale? We once again teamed up with our friends at Cloudwater, Other Half, Monkish, and The Veil to brew Threads, a brightly acidic Stock Ale inspired by a rich history of English Brewing. Brewed back in March of 2017, Threads was aged in a variety of barrels including Bourbon, Apple Brandy, Rye, and Maple Bourbon.
A generous, yet deft additional of vanilla beans contributes a silky, custard-meets-marshmallow aroma that pops from the glass as soon as the beer is poured. Dried dark fruit and oaky tones follow suit, greeting the palate on top of a plush mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Slightly warming, with a tart character reminiscent of dark cherries, Vanilla Threads offers an intricate drinking experience.
ABV: 15.2%
Malt: Maris Otter, C-120, Simpsons DRC
Hops: CTZ, Centennial Chinook
Additional Ingredients: Vanilla Beans

06.14.25 - This is the only Threads I've been partially able to drink - I don't know if the aging process has rendered them off, or if Trillium just brewed an awful stock ale - but they really do taste like they added brett to the mix. This one for some reason, while no vanilla in sight of course 6 years later, isn't as bad as the others and I can actually stand it...it's almost palatable and I tried to find the light. It basically was like drinking a pretty bad stock ale that was heavy on the barrel and you just don't want to waste it...

Rich aroma, boozy dark dried fruits, stewed plums, chocolate, red grapes, black grapes, apricot, figs, baked apple, raisins, pear, dark cherries, grapefruit, vanilla beans, marshmallow, custard, caramel, fruity molasses, dark toffee, nutty oak barrel, bourbon, maple bourbon, apple brandy, rye whiskey, some spice, with floral earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes acidic and slightly tart, with bright dark cherry notes, chocolate, fresh vanilla beans, marshmallowy custard, dried fruits, dark fruits, caramel, dark toffee, fruity molasses, oaky barrels, bourbon, maple bourbon, apple brandy, rye whiskey, with mild citrusy floral earthy herbal hops. Feels medium plus bodied, slick and smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a nice barrel aged stock ale with vanilla beans.
