The Assorted Treats series was born out of the desire to create a daily-drinking version of our culinary-inspired stouts. Designed to encapsulate some of our favorite after-dinner sweets, our Dessert Series imperial stouts are decadent, rich, and often on the higher end of the ABV spectrum. With Assorted Treats, you won't need a special occasion or group of friends to enjoy a little self-indulgence.
Sweet coconut dipped in decadent chocolate is a simple, yet completely satisfying bite. We've set out to replicate this sensory experience with Coconut Truffle. Pitch black in appearance, aromas of baker's chocolate, fudge, and shredded coconut swirl from the glass. Well-integrated secondary notes of vanilla and marzipan contribute layers of nuance. Mildly sweet, with a gentle warming character and medium carbonation, Coconut Truffle is rich in flavor without overwhelming the palate.

Pint can date 4-22-22. The stout poured pitch black with no head. No discernible lacing during the tasting.
The initial aroma was a pleasant mix of chocolate and coconut. The nose drops off rather quickly.
Taste follows nose but is amplified. The chocolate flavor is heavy - almost like chocolate syrup - but somehow it doesn't get overbearing. Coconut complements the chocolate well and is much less pronounced than the chocolate. You'll have to search for a stout char as there is a bit of vanilla in the background.
Mouthfeel is lighter than expected but not overly thin. A bit sweet on the tongue but given the focus of the brewers this much is expected. A delicious beer that will thrill chocolate and coconut fans and possibly disappoint fans of stouts with malty char.

Can dated Jan 30, 2020, drank July 2, 2020.
A complete disappointment - a stout of any type shouldn't drop off this much in 5 months. Other than pouring with a nice brown head, that disappeared to a flat ring around the edge pretty quickly, this beer tasted like a crappy synthetic coconut treat made by a kid in the science department of junior high school, and was almost as thin as water. Trillium should have higher standards for itself at this point.

A: Poured from the can into a tulip glass. Body is black with a thin wisp of tan head.
S: Wow - nose really jumps out of the glass: shredded coconut, some toasted coconut, and dark chocolate. Think Mounds candy bar.
T: Follows the nose, with shredded coconut and dark chocolate. Touch of roasted malt and burnt brown sugar. Again - it's like a Mounds candy bar or German Chocolate cake.
M: Given all that flavor, you might think this was a "big" stout, like a Russian Imperial or American Double - but it drinks much lighter than those styles.
O: Digging this beer. It's clearly a "dessert" beer - I couldn't imagine having more than one - but it's tasty and enjoyable.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Canned on 01/30/20
Served in a tulip
Dark brown appearance. Medium bodied for the style. A touch lighter in color and thinner in body than anticipated. The liquid was capped by a thin, frothy, saddle brown head that quickly broke apart. Minimal streaky, patchy lacing stuck along the glass.
The aroma was fantastic. Really rich and decadent with an intense coconut presence. Coconut oil perhaps. Loads of semisweet chocolate too. A chocolate dipped macaroon came to mind. Sweet but not excessively so. Hint of vanilla. Some dark malt notes were detectable as well.
The flavor profile was also impressive, though not quite as punchy as the nose. Big coconut notes. Lots of rich semisweet chocolate too. Malty and robust on the front end. Nice melding of roasted and chocolate malts. Bit of vanilla in the center. Touch of roastiness on the back end. Sweet coconut and chocolate notes lingered after the swallow.
The liquid felt medium bodied initially but turned super creamy and plush as it moved along the palate. A fine, fairly zippy effervescence gave the beer a dense, lush creaminess.
Trillium’s imperial pastry stouts are usually pretty amazing, and it is nice to see them experimenting with similar flavor profiles in a medium ABV stout series. This beer truly captured the essence of a coconut bonbon. I really look forward to trying future offerings.

From the bottom of the can: "CANNED ON 01/30/20 11:21:56"
Appearance: The beer has a black body and a thick, creamy textured, light tan head that is medium in height and contains an assortment of bubble sizes. Outstanding head retention. It leaves some lacing on the glass.
Aroma; There is a strong milk chocolate aroma that comes through at first, but it is blasted away with a shaved coconut aroma. It smells a lot like a German Chocolate Cake.
Taste: It tastes like chocolate ganache with a mild alcohol flavor up front, As the beer carries across the palate it has a bit more alcohol warmth and it takes on a bit of a chocolate liqueur flavor. The beer finishes with a light coconut flavor and a bit of coffee. After a while there is a light minty flavor that crops up in the beer.
Mouthfeel: It is full bodied and very smooth with just a light bit of alcohol warmth. It is easy on the palate and has only a light bitterness.
Overall: It is a very decadent beer and it plays off the "coconut truffle" title very well. The highlight of the beer is how it maintains a composure of chocolate flavor and aroma throughout the drinking experience, so that it hits you all the time. This would be a great beer for a birthday party or an anniversary celebration for a person who loves chocolate. I would drink it again and I would recommend it to chocolate lovers, especially those who enjoy coconut.
