This variant of Crown and Crate combines local raw wildflower honey harvested locally from Merrimack Valley hives with lactose sugar and the pronounced Tongan vanilla beans. Hopped excessively with Galaxy and Mosaic, the resulting Double IPA is a fresh and invigorating addition to the series.

Pouring a soft canary yellow color, Tongan Vanilla Crown and Crate's opaque, glowing haze prepares the senses for an array of citrus and tropical aromas. Orange zest and pineapple nectar awaken the palate, shifting to more confectionary vanilla frosting and cream filling notes towards the back of each sip. Plush with gentle carbonation, Tongan Vanilla Crown and Crate is a highly indulgent Double IPA.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA

Served in a tulip

Completely opaque, super pale straw yellow appearance. The body was capped by a finger-tall, fluffy, bubbly, bright white head that fell to a thick collar. A few small patches of lacing stuck along the glass.

The aroma was amazingly fruity and bright. Tropical fruits dominated initially. Loads of passionfruit. Good dose of mango too. Touch of dankness. Citrus notes were also detectable. Grapefruit perhaps. Hint of orange peel. Bit of yeastiness was well. The grapefruit really intensified later.

The flavor profile was solid and much more citrus forward than the nose. Big grapefruit presence from start to finish. White grapefruit specifically. Hint of sweetness on the front end. Peach and mango came to mind. Some pineapple was noticeable in the center. Grapefruit rind appeared on the back and and carried into the moderately pithy and bitter finish.

Nice fluffy, lighter bodied mouthfeel. The liquid contained a larger bubbled, fairly aggressive effervescence that felt crisp and sprightly on the palate.

Crown And Crate w/ Tongan Vanilla is an enjoyable and surprisingly drinkable double IPA with a terrific tropical fruit forward nose and a grapefruit heavy flavor profile. That said, I picked up absolutely no honey nor any vanilla. Given the beer was so well balanced, however, this may not have been a bad thing.
