Collaboration with Vitamin Sea Brewing
Vitamin Sea may only be 18 months old, but our relationship with Brewer/Owner Dino Funari can be traced back much further than that. A prominent South Shore homebrewer for years, we greatly anticipated his arrival in the greater Boston craft beer scene.
For our first collaboration together, we chose the style that our respective breweries are most widely known for, New England-style DIPA. Layering Citra and Rakau on top of a fluffy and plush malt base, Channel Charge also features a label artwork collab between our artists, Kevin Cimo and Dean McKeever.
Pouring a pale straw yellow with an opaque, glowing haze, Channel Charge wastes no time in presenting it's bountiful, hop-saturated aroma. Big-time orange sorbet notes make an initial wave, with layers of punchy peach juice, candied summer melon, and sweet pineapple following closely behind. Bold, yet balanced in its approach, with just enough bitter bite, Channel Charge represents the best of both breweries' approach to pushing hoppy beers further.
MALT: American 2-row Barley, Flaked Oats, Malted Oats, White Wheat, C-15
HOPS: Citra, Rakau

look: hazy as fuck, soupy, pale orange, no head, no residues, interesting, it is so pale that it's kind like a dead man's skin...
smell: peach, watermelon,
taste: peach, mango, a little grapefruit and pineapple, yummy. malt is not noticeable.
feel: smooth and dense texture, very approachable, dry finish, tiny sweet and spicy aftertaste, good balance.
overall: this is a decent neipa, I especially like the soupy and dense feeling and look.

Does a ne dipa required to have a strong citrus nose with layers of juicy fruit? Or more subdued as in this brew? The mouthfeel and taste did not disappoint. This was the 2nd act of a 2 course ploughmans lunch in the backyard.

Whoa, this is like the Sombrero or White Russian of beers! It looks like somebody poured a glass of milk into it. Really, really hazy. Not as tasty as maybe it could be, but still exceptional in terms of look and feel.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
07/27/20
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a completely opaque, ultra pale straw yellow hue. Almost milky in appearance. The body was capped by a thin film of larger sized bubbles that quickly dissolved. No lacing whatsoever.
The nose was really hoppy and bold. Honeydew melon came through strong. Lots of ripe mango too. Big citrus presence as well. Orange and tangerine came to mind. Orange sherbet perhaps. Really fruity and sweet but not excessively so.
Citrus notes dominated in the flavor profile. Loads of juicy orange and tangerine for sure. Big pineapple presence in the center. Bit of wheaty and lemony tartness too. More orange and orange peel on the back end and the finish. Some ruby red grapefruit was noticeable as well. Hint of resiny bitterness after the swallow. Superbly well balanced.
Nice rich, fuller bodied mouthfeel. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained an ultra fine, fairly subdued effervescence that fluffed up very nicely on the palate.
Channel Charge is a terrific double IPA that does a fantastic job showcasing Citra hops, while getting some additional fruity complexity from the Rakau. The hype behind this Trillium x Vitamin C collaboration was big, and it definitely did not disappoint.

Delicious. An absolute treat.
Scored 2 4-packs by bringing my wife. Glad she did (she'll be having some too!).
It hits all the rights notes on taste, feel and juiciness.
Great collaboration!

16 oz. can dated 07/27/20
Pours opaque pale golden yellow with a quickly dissipating white foam head. Smells like huge tropical citrusy stone fruits, peach, apricot, mango, pineapple, orange citrus zest, grapefruit, melon, mild bready caramelized malt, hint of scallions, with floral earthy herbal dank resinous grassy pine. Tastes like huge tropical pineapple, mango, peach, apricot, orange sorbet, grapefruit rind, candied melon, caramelized bready malts, with floral earthy herbal dank grassy resinous pine. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a real nice NEDIPA.

Gorgeous milky haze on the pour. Aromas of freshly sliced scallions, orange zest, and mango. Taste is dank scallions with bright verging on acidic citrus. Fresh pineapple enters mid-palate, and a burst of resinous pine washes the whole thing down. Extremely creamy, and unabashedly dank. Kicks in the door like Biggie to remind you that IPAs need flavor, not just color. Luckily Channel Charge has both to spare. The single best Trillium beer I've had in a minute.
