First brewed in January of 2018 in collaboration with J. Wakefield Brewing, Tiramisu was one of the first decadent entries into our Dessert Series. After reserving a select portion for more than a year's rest in bourbon barrels, we released Barrel-Aged Tiramisu in February of 2019. Now after more than 30 months after the original brew day, our first ever double barrel-aged stout is ready for release.

We held back a handful of barrels of Barrel-Aged Tiramisu, selected for their depth of character and potential for further development, and racked this small percentage of beer into a fresh set of bourbon barrels for another year of aging.

After transferring the beer out of its second set of barrels, we further conditioned it upon fresh Mostra Coffee and Barrington Coffee Roasting Co. beans and whole Mexican, Papua New Guinea and Tahitian vanilla beans. The resulting imperial stout has structured integrity and offers layers of complexity and depth of character that only time and oak can contribute.

Had on tap at Canton. Pours opaque, jet black in color with minimal head. Taste is big barrel, milk chocolate, and wafer. Heavy body, low carbonation, sweet. Excellent beer, very overpriced.

On tap at the all new Royall St location. Lots of fudge and bourbon barrel character, bit of creaminess, velvety mouthfeel. Outrageously expensive at $15 for a 5oz pour. It's good, though

Taste exactly as assumed, thick stout, with great notes of barrel ageing, and taste exactly as tiramisu, would be the perfect stout to serve along a great portion of tiramisu

Drank from a 16.9 fl oz (500 ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip

Fuller bodied, total pitch black appearance. The slick, shimmery looking liquid poured with absolutely no head. A thin, oily film floated on top of the beer.

Fantastic aroma. Coffee notes dominated initially. Freshly brewed, medium roast coffee perhaps. Powdered cocoa also came through strong. Good dose of brown sugar sweetness too. Moderately sweet. Vanilla bean was detectable and really intensified as the beer warmed. Some sweet cream as well. Boozy notes were also apparent. I definitely picked up a coffee liquor-like quality.

The flavor profile was nearly identical to the aroma. Huge mocha presence. Nice balance of freshly brewed, medium roast coffee and semisweet chocolate. Roasted malts were noticeable on the front end. Moderately boozy. Like the nose, coffee liquor or amaretto came to mind. Good dose of vanilla and sweet cream as well. Bourbon/barrel notes rounded things out in the finish. Some oak, roasted malts and booze lingered after the swallow.

The mouthfeel was the only aspect of the beer that did not blow me away. It was medium bodied for the style. A touch thin perhaps. Oily and slick on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence.

Double Barrel Tiramisu is a fantastic beer that is immensely flavorful and complex but far more balanced and drinkable than I anticipated. While the barrel presence was fairly subtle and the mouthfeel a touch thin, both the flavor profile and the aroma really lived up to the beer’s namesake.
