First released in 2013 as one of our original recipes, Pot & Kettle is our signature Oatmeal Porter. Throughout the years, we've released many variants - some treated with complementary adjuncts, a bourbon barrel-aged rendition, and even some amplified, imperial takes on the style.
For 2021 Double Pot & Kettle, we've blended four versions of this Imperial Oatmeal Porter. Fresh, non-barrel-aged '21 was thoughtfully combined with harmonious selections of bourbon barrel-aged and fresh oak conditioned '18, '19, and '20. These threads have been in barrels for anywhere from 9-42 months, depending on the vintage. We then conditioned the final blend on Mexican vanilla beans.
Presenting black in the glass, with dark chocolate-colored highlights and a mocha-soaked head, Double Pot & Kettle's aromatics are roasty and decadent. Vanilla-dusted dark chocolate truffle, bourbon-soaked oatmeal raisin cookie, and a well-structured oaky tannin presence make this beer a true delight. The body is light-to-medium and the alcohol remains well-integrated as the glass warms.

Bottle. Tan head. Dark brown color. Black in the glass.
Sweet vanilla, roasted malts, lots of whiskey. Chocolate and cocoa. Some fudge. Oak. Warming. Not super thick, but full bodied. Really solid Porter. Massive flavor.

Pours black with a finger of mocha-tan foam. Aroma is hearty roasty and toasty malts right off the front. Vanilla bean hits right after, with smooth sweetness. It's sealed up with bourbon and a kiss of char right at the end. Some initial sweetness via the vanilla, but follows up with great balance. Flavor profile is hearty roasty, toasty, and caramely malts. Vanilla bean adds a huge crescendo of sweetness. Vanilla here is really something else. It's hearty and powerful, but refrains from completely running away with the flavor profile. Part of this reasoning is the hit of bourbon, char, and oak at the end. It adds some heat, and cauterizes the initial sweet ooze to seal up the flavor profile. Mouth feel is thick and full with a lightly gritty texture throughout. It packs a presence, from whiff to sip. Overall, hearty, punchy stout/porter with great vanilla bean and bourbon.

Pours a really dark cola brown that looks black as it settles with a creamy tan head that lingers. Truly gorgeous beer. The nose has barrel notes up front (note: I am prone to barrel sensitivity because I don’t care for booze), but they’re not “hot,” if that makes sense, and there’s a nice balance between the oak and bourbon, which both help to accentuate the vanilla notes. There’s also milk chocolate and molasses notes. Wow.
The milk chocolate and molasses flavors are very prominent and very forward, and the vanilla is also notable, but it’s the oak and bourbon barrel notes that actually provide balance, not allowing this beer to be too sweet, while also avoiding being too boozy.
That is a difficult line to walk, and Trillium does it magnificently. The mouthfeel is rich and decadent, perfect for this hefty beer. What a pleasure this is to drink.

After enough time passes since my last barrel aged stout, I get the old-time hankering for one, even though my palate has shifted substantially since the days I would line up to chase down something like this beast from Trillium. It’s 70:30 that I’ll be overwhelmed by the sugary sweet aspect of the beer as opposed to enjoying any nuance, the former being the case here.
Dark, dark pour with a moderate khaki head. Good looking brew.
I get all char, burnt brown sugar and molasses on the nose and taste.
Mouthfeel is thick, fudgy and hefty. I am overwhelmed.
