Genuine New Englanders are the type of people who are brave enough to take on a long, snowy shoveling session and lighthearted enough to crack a beer in their lawn chair afterward. Our annual Sabro-hopped Double IPA is brewed for those True Englanders. For the second time, we've added a complimentary hop varietal to the dry-hop. Citra takes the stage this year, contributing a welcomed complexity to Sabro's distinctive piña colada character.
Pouring a hazy, vibrant golden-yellow, Citra True New Englander offers an explosively tropical aroma, instantly transporting the palate beachside. Creamy coconut, juicy pineapple, and overripe mango pop upfront, with underlying citrus tones supporting in the background. Soft and medium-bodied, Citra True New Englander finishes with a balanced sweetness that is rounded out by a touch of resiny bitterness.
MALT: American 2-row Barley, White Wheat
HOPS: Citra, Sabro

Pours an opaque cloudy orange with a short cap of soft white head. The aroma is juicy with hints of melon and berries. The flavor had some minerality, some herbal Ness, and berries and melons. The mouthfeel is quite full but soft and highly drinkable despite the 8.1%. This is an excellent beer. Given an opportunity it, I would enjoy quite a bit of it.

Really nice, dank tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, passionfruit, peach, lime, orange citrus, grapefruit, fragrant floral coconut notes, hint of vanilla, cedar, and earthy resinous herbal pine.

Can dated 12/15/20 enjoyed on 12/21/20. Pours a hazy yellow color with vibrant fluffy white head and decent lacing retention. Whiffs of coconut, grapefruit juice, and dank hops on the nose. Flavors are coconut up front, pina colada, citrus zest, and bitter hops on the finish. Trillium does Sabro hops really well and the original True New Englander is one of my favorites - it was a real surprise the first time I had it. Never had anything like it before. I’m not sure if the Citra dry hop really helps this one though. The flavors seemed to clash for me. The coconut in the Sabro alone is enough - the citrus rind and bitterness weren’t doing it for me in this variant, but will be interesting to see how the other cans taste. Still a decent beer though for normal standards.
