The first Mettle Alloy release of 2021 is an explosively tropical Double IPA. A huge wave of mango smoothie hits the palate first, slowly unveiling underlying pineapple and pithy orange notes atop a luscious full body.

Served in a tulip
Cloudy, canary yellow appearance. The turbid looking body was topped by an inch-tall, fluffy white crown that quickly dropped to a medium sized collar. Small dots and patches of lacing stuck along the glass, but they were short lived.
The nose was impressive. Tropical fruits immediately came to mind. Passionfruit was most prominent. Ripe guava and papaya notes were also apparent. Moderate amount of dankness too. There was a subtle dry, powdery yeastiness as well.
The flavor profile was also fruity and bold though not as interesting initially as the aroma. Citrus notes dominated. Fresh squeezed orange juice specifically. Sweet but appropriately so. Bit of tangerine and clementine too. Somewhat tart and tangy. Pineapple was noticeable in the center. Grapefruit came through as the beer moved along the palate. The beer finished with pithy and bitter grapefruit rind-like notes. Later, ripe mango notes appeared.
Nice creamy, slick, smooth mouthfeel. Medium bodied for the style. The liquid contained a fine, moderate effervescence that fluffed up nicely on the palate.
The concept behind the Mettle Alloy series is a bit iffy, but this beer was definitely a winner. If future release continue to be as good as this one, I will be sure to seek them all out. Hopefully, Trillium will return to their previous labeling system because keeping track of these beers by their canning dates is rather tricky.

Pours a milky light orange with a small short lived head and light lacing.
Smells of piney hops and bitter citrus. Tastes of bitter hops forward with notes of grapefruit and pineapple and a bitter warm alcohol finish. The fruit tastes come out more as the glass gets warm .
Medium body and carbonation. Clean crisp mouthfeel.
This is a well made complex tart hop forward brew.

Pours cloudy opaque yellow orange gold with a dense creamy lasting white foam head with good lacing and retention. Smells like rich exotic tropical fruits, papaya, jackfruit, mangosteen, pineapple, mango, apricot, orange citrus, grapefruit pith, lemon peel, mild caramelized biscuity malt, with dank resinous earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like some exotic pithy tropical citrusy fruits, mangosteen, jackfruit, papaya, passionfruit, guava, juicy mango, underripe pineapple, cantaloupe, apricot, orange citrus, pithy grapefruit, lemon peel, some caramelized biscuity malt, with dank resinous earthy herbal grassy pine notes. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a nice DIPA.
