The second Mettle Alloy of 2021 presents deep yellow, offering an intensely tropical aromatic profile. Guava nectar, candied mango, and passion fruit juice delight the nose. The palate shifts towards citrus, with notes of grapefruit pith and orange zest providing a gently bitter, yet satisfying finish. Medium-bodied and highly refreshing.

Traded for this a few weeks back, as I'll drink anything that I can get my hands on from Trillium. This was the first can that I've ever seen that had a black top but besides this, this was every bit as familiar and enjoyable as anything else that I've had from them over the years, as this was very well crafted!
Not surprisingly, this had a cloudy, golden hue to it that was uniform in appearance and topped off by a sufficiently large enough head with nicely-sized bubbles in it. The lacing was decent as there were hints of rings along the middle of my pint glass, but the suds didn't cover very much as I worked my way through this. Lots of deep tropical fruits, white peach, and tangerine cream sweetness in the nose as the mango, melon, dank hops, and swamp water kicked on the palate once this fully warmed up. Some candied sugar, white grape, and Nelson Sauvin-like wine entered the fray near the back as this was wonderfully complex and easy to drink, given the amount of alcohol this contained.
That was felt, but not tasted, as the carbonation was moderate and the malt present but not particularly discernible. Dated 2/3 on the bottom of the can, this looked and felt every bit fresh as I'd easily reach for this again, even if I got a different iteration. The bitterness and acrid grapefruit in the back left me wanting more as I'd easily reach for this again. Once again, Trillium has another winner on it's hands!

Drank from a 473ml • 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
02/03/21
Served in a tulip
Cloudy, yellow ochre appearance. The liquid was topped by a white, fluffy, finger-tall crown that dropped to a medium collar. Spotty lacing stuck along the glass.
The aroma was solid but unexciting. Citrus dominated. Juicy orange notes specifically. Bit of sweet peach too. Touch of bubblegum-like yeastiness. Candied orange peel was also noticeable. The bubblegum notes intensified later. Some pineapple was detectable as well.
The flavor profile was also laudable though unremarkable. Big citrus presence. Clementine and kumquat notes came to mind. Fairly tart and tangy. Moderately bitter. White grapefruit appeared as the beer moved along the palate. More lingering grapefruit and dry, bitter grapefruit peel on the back end and the finish.
The mouthfeel was perhaps the most impressive aspect of the beer. It was fluffy and medium bodied for the style. A super fine and fairly aggressive effervescence gave the liquid a terrific light creaminess on the palate.
Mettle Alloy 02/03/21 is a solid though forgettable iteration in the Mettle Alloy series. It is fine for what it is, but I definitely would not go out of my way to procure it.

16 oz. can
Pours cloudy opaque orange yellow gold with a dense creamy lasting white foam head. Notes of pink grapefruit, guava rind, papaya, juicy tropical exotic and citrus fruits, some earthy dankness, mild malt. Feels medium plus bodied, creamy smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a real nice DIPA.
