Brewed with Sauvignon Blanc grape must, Phantasm, and hopped with Citra, Nelson, and Rakau, Dialed-Out is a display of vibrant, fruit-forward aromatics. Pouring a gorgeous sunny yellow, reminiscent of orange juice, this 8.5% Double IPA wastes no time in offering mouth-watering notes of sticky mango, juicy pineapple, and muscat grape. As the glass warms, secondary tones of candied grapefruit and gooseberry offer layered complexity. Medium-bodied and soft in its approach, Dialed-Out finishes dry and drinkable, deceptively so for its heft.

Look - a bit of head out of the can but otherwise flat. Nice orange color.

Smell - initial juiciness but less so thereafter.

Taste - juicy and dry - back end bitterness stood out.

Feel - medium to heavy.

Overall - not the best Trillium I've had, but solid enough.

Drank from a 1 pint can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
05/31/21
Served in a tulip

Opaque, pale straw yellow appearance. The turbid looking body was topped by a thin film of bubbles that dissolved almost instantaneously. Typical Trillium.

The aroma was really interesting initially. Musty grape notes came through big time. The Sauvignon Blanc grape must definitely made its presence known. Some sweet mango was also apparent. After a few minutes, the grape subsided and citrus notes took over. Nice melding of orange and tangerine. Tropical fruits were also noticeable. Mango was perhaps most prominent. Touch of weed-like dankness as well.

The flavor profile was definitely more straightforward than the nose and the grape must was far less noticeable here. Citrus dominated. Loads of orange, tangerine and kumquat on the front end. Somewhat tart and tangy. Grapefruit appeared as the beer moved along the palate and soon took over. Moderately pithy, dry and bitter. Bit of lemon and pineapple too. The grapefruit turned even more pithy and rind-like on the back end and the finish. Lots of lingering bitterness after the swallow.

The mouthfeel was surprisingly light and fluffy for the style. A finer beaded, fairly aggressive effervescence gave the liquid a prickliness on the palate.

Most of the beers in Trillium’s Dialed In series feature big white grape notes and a complex hop profile, but Dialed Out was definitely a lot more subtle in every regard. While enjoyable, I was expecting a bit more from this beer.

Canned 5/31/21 and poured in a tulip glass. Hazy pale yellow, typical Trillium IPA appearance. A completely different experience and flavor profile when cold vs as it warms. To start, very much a standard Dialed-series beer: grapefruit zest, grape must, pineapple. But dramatically changes once it warms - nothing unpleasant but there’s definitely a ton of thiols - kind of a dank, earthy, gooseberry combo that lingers on the palate. This is the first beer I’ve tried brewed with phantasm and I’m guessing that’s when it stands out the most. Hard to tell what I think of it - it adds an interesting flavor that gets more prominent as it warms. Not sure if it’ll be a fad or become a regular ingredient for a lot of brewers. Good beer- interesting.
