Drank from an 11.2 fl oz (330 ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a semi-transparent mahogany color with orange highlights at the liquid’s edges. A small, khaki colored mass of bubbles topped the body and quickly fell to a thin, lasting collar. There was zero lacing.
The nose was tart, fruity and surprisingly savory. An odd, barbecue sauce-like quality was rather prominent. Somewhat smoky. Good dose of white vinegar too. Soy sauce also came to mind. Moderate amount of red wine and sour cherry character. Brown sugar was apparent as well.
The flavor profile was also unique. Tart and fairly sharp up front. Red wine vinegar came through strong. Lots of oaky barrel too. Touch of brown sugar sweetness. Sour cherry was detectable as well. Boozy notes kicked in as the beer moved along the palate, but I would definitely not peg this for 15%. More red wine, cherry and oaky barrel on the back end and the finish.
The mouthfeel was disappointingly thin and quite flat. This almost bordered on watery. The liquid contained an ultra fine and subtle effervescence that was hardly perceivable.
Double Barrel Aged Wild Sinister Kid is a rather strange sour ale and, overall, not very enjoyable. The only particularly notable aspect of this beer was that the super high ABV was shockingly well buried.
