Drank from a 1 pint .9 fl oz (500 ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
11/22/21
Served in a tulip
Deep brown/black appearance. Fuller bodied for the style. The oily looking liquid was topped by a small, frothy, saddle brown head that quickly dropped to a fine collar. Dots of lacing cascaded down the glass after each sip.
The aroma was amazing. Really intense and complex. Rich, boozy and sweet. Super malty and robust. Big caramel malt presence. Loads of toffee too. Coconut notes also came through strong. Good dose of fragrant vanilla as well. Boozy bourbon notes were apparent and really intensified as the beer warmed. Loads of coffee. Darker roast coffee perhaps. Good dose of powdered cocoa as well.
The flavor profile was similar to the nose but boozier and somewhat harsh. Malty and robust up front. Nice melding of sweet caramel malts and deep, dark, roasted malt notes. Moderate coconut presence. Dark roast coffee was also apparent. Boozy bourbon notes kicked in hard as the beer moved along the palate and really intensified on the back end and the finish. Cocoa notes were also apparent. Good dose of coconut and vanilla as well. Touch of bitter, lingering roast after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was medium-full bodied for the style. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained a finer beaded, moderate effervescence that frothed up really nicely.
Although the coconut was a bit more subtle than I had hoped, Barrel Aged Coconut Night and Day is a fantastically boozy and complex dessert-style stout. Rarely do you find a beer of this magnitude that has such an intense but also balanced and well integrated flavor profile.

Pours pitch black color with a small 1 finger thick tan foamy head that faded slowly and left basically no lacing. Smells like chocolate, cocoa powder, burnt coffee grinds, fresh ground coffee, vanilla, molasses, toffee, dark chocolate and bakers chocolate. Not much coconut or bourbon in the nose, but it still smells really good.
Tastes similar to the aroma with chocolate, dark chocolate, molasses, caramel, cocoa powder, burnt coffee grinds, fresh ground coffee, vanilla, toffee, chocolate syrup or hot fudge, bakers chocolate, bourbon, oaky notes and hints of faint toasted coconut as it fades. This is dominated by chocolate and some rich malts that are complex and come off almost like brownie batter. No sign whatsoever of the ABV, the feel is smooth and on the average thickness side with a mild bitterness but a creamy texture as it slides down easy. Not the most barrel aged stout flavor, but the brew is very flavorful and really enjoyable. The sum of all the parts works really well.
