Drank from an 11.2 fl oz (330ml) bottle purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a somewhat murky looking, dark brown/black hue and medium bodied for the style. Slightly thinner than anticipated. The beer was topped by a frothy, saddle brown film of bubbles that quickly dissolved. A pencil thin collar sat atop the liquid.
The aroma was outstanding. Really rich and complex. Powdered cocoa notes came through strongest. Perhaps some chocolate fudge as well. Loads of fresh vanilla extract. Big coconut presence too. This definitely reminded me of a Mounds candy bar. I thought I picked up some almond extract, even though this beer did not contained any. Good dose of caramel malt sweetness. The bourbon and rum barrel presence was noticeable but more subtle than expected.
Like the nose, the flavor profile was intense and complex but exceedingly boozy. Rich and malty up front. Caramel malts were most apparent. Bit of roasted malt character too. Powdered cocoa notes kicked in next. Vanilla also came through strong. Good amount of toasted coconut as well. There was a pervasive booziness that appeared mid palate and really intensified on the back end and the finish. Some roast and oaky barrel notes were also noticeable.
The mouthfeel was rich and full bodied but not quite as creamy or as viscous as I anticipated. A super fine, subtle effervescence gave the liquid a nice fluffiness on the palate.
Although Endless and Endless Coconut are supposedly made from the same base beer, Endless Coconut seemed far boozier than the original. While the coconut lent the beer an additional flavor component, it was not enough to compensate for the excessive alcohol heat.
