L - poured black with a thin mocha head. Minimal lacing.
S - roasty malt with coffee under-tones. Pretty darn nice.
T - follows the nose fairly well.
F - medium mouthfeel. Mildly bitter at the end.
O - it’s no secret: I enjoyed this beer.

Can purchased from Fattey Beer Company in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a very creamy looking black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like the classic coffee and roasted malt, with some pleasant light nuttiness.

I remember the regular Secret Stairs back in the day not being the most impressive beer, but this perhaps feels like an improvement. It’s roasty and toasty in the correct ways, with a pleasant little bitterness on the finish.

This is medium bodied, pretty creamy, and nicely drinkable. It drinks bigger than the style typically would.

This style isn’t ever going to blow your wig off, but this is a pretty good version.

Pours mahogany brown and settles black with a nice tan head that provides ample lacing. The nose is centered around roasty malt and cocoa aromas, and that is also the centerpiece of the flavor profile. A nice creamy mouthfeel fits the beer really well well.

No canning date. Can to snifter.

L: Pours a dark brown with a fine-pored, light brown head that leaves a bit of lacing. Lots of tiny floaters visible.

S: Dark malts, milk chocolate and hints of black coffee. Slightly roasty.

T: Chocolate, coffee and minimally caramelized brown sugar. Low sweetness, medium bitterness. Roasty and woody.

F: Smooth and quite creamy. Still highly drinkable. Medium carbonation.

O: Great no-bullshit stout that is quite flavorful despite its low ABV and its rather light body. Drinks very smoothly.

16 oz can.

Pours a dark cola color with a finger of fluffy khaki head. Has moderate head retention. Leaves a beautiful crown of lacing around the top of the glass.

Aromas of dark roasted malts, baker's chocolate, coffee, vanilla and faint caramel. Slightly nutty. Good smelling stout.

The flavor follows the nose: Lots of dark roasted malts, coffee and unsweetened chocolate. There's some sweet notes of toffee, chocolate cake and vanilla. Pretty aggressively hopped. Lots of flavor here.

The feel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Pretty creamy. Has a bone dry finish.

Overall, hell to the yes. Give me more of this. I've been missing the American Stout for years. Everything is 10% and aged in barrels these days, and whilst I enjoy those beers, I really want a straight up American stout with absolutely no adjuncts once in a while. And this is a great one.
